Not bad a all! Love the white. After getting such a dud Embassy Pro, I’d be slightly afraid to get one I can’t return if it sucks. Though the only VP I’ve tried was fantastic for the price

No, stock pickups (sound good in band mix for sure, but) just simply dull compared to them.
I want Lollars too, but damn expensive.

Yeah, they ain’t cheap! There’s still ‘something’ I like about the modern Gibson pickups in my ‘14, but if I could only have one ‘Bird, I’d go for Lollars or TB’s. I’m sure the Lulls are awesome, but they’re even more expensive than the Lollars. I also have not heard a decent soundclip of the Lulls, so it’s even more of a leap of faith

Yeah most of the Lull T-bird soundclips are about the whole bass, so it's hard to separate only the sound of the pickups.
But there is a japanese company that makes non-reverse T-Bird replicas with Lollar or Lull pickups (custom choice).

unfortunately it's not a direct comparison and the video is not that good quality, but i think u can get the idea what's the character differences.
Lull is exact copy of the 63(?) pickups therefore it sounds more mid-rangy and dirty, while Lollar's design just based on the 63 pickups but with few "improvements". (clearer, brighter etc.)

Yeah, I'm a fan of the stock pickups in my 2013. I'd need a huge reason to swap them out, especially since I like the black.

The P-Bird was pretty ferocious last night. It got called rude. That always makes me happy. If a bass doesn't do rude, you can't get it to be rude. You can always back off when rude isn't called for.

This is why I keep going back to the Rotos. Even the DR Lo-Riders tone things down more than I'd like.

The thing I like about Black Beauty strings with the stock pickups that they do ‘tone em down’ a bit, but still have that strong mid range thing I love. I was a little surprised how much lower the output was compared to my other two basses, but that’s easily dealt with

Update on Blu’s progress:

Had Open heart surgery yesterday. We werent getting amy ground signal so decided to pull the bridge post on the treble side. I had previously had trouble with it pulling out but instead of the toothpick trick I foolishly used epoxy so this wasn’t the easiest of operations. I was plenty nervous as I didnt want to punch through the back of Blu nor did I want to jack up the paint. All went well though and the ferrel came out with no real trouble. I cleaned up the hole with a dremel while my teacher cleaned up the threads of the ferel. Using a hand drill I cleaned up the chanel for the ground wire and that was replaced with new wire. Now there is good contact amd a solid ground signal. Whew!

Next up is to improve the instal of the pups, more on that later.

It’s tough to give advice on strings because I can only tell you what they sound like in my hands for my tastes. That doesn’t tell you how they’re going to be in your hands or with your tastes. Fortunately, strings are a fairly cheap experiment

Oh, I totally hear you on that. Even though the NR has the same exact pickups as the R, its being set neck and also very likely having the tone knob removed (only room on the other side for two knobs), should make it sound different enough.

As soon as I got home from the gig, I plugged em all in to compare. I still love em all for what they are, but man, the Lollars are pretty terrific pickups! They’re the clearest and have a great punch. They’re the brightest too, but not to any extreme. Very lively sounding. Great punctuation at the front of the note. Almost like a really nice compressor.

All that being said, the Thunderbucker Ranch ‘66 holds up remarkably well. There are differences, but nothing too drastic. They both sound fantastic.

The 2014 stock Gibson sounds a little dull by contrast. Not as hot as the other two basses, or as clear. To be fair, I think a lot of it has to do with the Black Beauty strings. I love em in a band mix, but they don’t ring out a lot. They’ve also been on the bass awhile and are probably dying a bit, so There’s that.

Lollars are pretty expensive, but I’m super happy with em so far
