Thunderbird Club

No kidding. I guess for IEM and DI into FOH, it would beat schlepping gear.

I think that we covered some of this when we were discussing tubes a few days ago. But I wonder if a bass player would find as much utility with this as guitar players? In the past, people have made the point that it doesn't matter if others (e.g., audience) hear/appreciate the nuance in tone, but it matters if we do. But with bass are people going to notice the nuance of switching from an Orange to an Ampeg or a Mesa Boogie in the course of one gig? I am not a pro but an anecdotal observation is that I seldom see bassists even swapping out instruments during a performance, to the same degree we see it with guitarists.

Maybe you are thinking about the utility to your recording projects. And it is quite possible that I am in over my head and missing the point.:wacky:
I mostly agree with you. I feel a lot of the subtleties get lost in the mix.

Guess you haven't seen Stefan Olsdal of Placebo play live then... ;)
No. I am not familiar with him. The only time I recall seeing a bassist swap very different instruments was on an episode of Austin City Limits from a few years ago. Justin Meldal-Johnsen was playing with Beck. He used two different vintage Ps, a vintage Bronco, a Guild and a Gibson Ripper.

I would contrast this with seeing Cheap Trick on Front and Center shortly after their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. As anyone familiar with them knows, part of the show is Rick Nielsen having tons of outrageous custom guitars. Bassist Tom Petersson played ONE instrument the entire show: his signature model Gretsch 12 string. I was waiting for him to swap out to a Thunderbird, as I figured he might be under obligation to show his signature Lull model too. Nope.

p.s.
Kudos @hillerup for the heroic show of fortitude in catching up on the postings!

Recording is certainly one aspect! As far as how many amp sounds, effects and basses you’d want to use in one show...I dunno, as many as you like, I suppose :)

I think tone matters a great deal live. And even if it doesn’t, I’m gonna act like it does!

Thanks! :)

Saw Cheap Trick back in '79 and Rick definitely had a LOT of guitars on stage even back then, but mostly played his Hamer Explorers... :)

Fun band to watch... :)

Yes. I wasn't trying to be disagreeable. Tone definitely matters. And this pedal might be especially helpful when playing in so many different acts too.

I love technology and gear. I was thinking more along the lines of the cost/benefit of that pedal, given the price tag. Because it's $1k that you could apply towards acquiring another bass! drool You know, the "practical" stuff. :)

Haha! If the Fractal does what so many say, I think it’s worth the money. I’m just not convinced that sort of thing is for me

Just loaded into a session...nice little studio.

Might be something you can buy used on line at Guitar Center. Then if you don't like it you have 30 days to return it for a full refund. If you decide to keep it but a year later the honeymoon is over, you could probably sell it for the price you paid. Either way you don't come out in the hole and you get a good feel for where the technology is at and if it's for you.

Most Nashville engineers know how to destroy a perfectly good bass sound...gonna see how they try to butcher my T Bird. Typically, come mix time, the number one goal with these clowns is to get the bass out of the way of everything else. In the end it’s just an over compressed, dull lifeless thing, but man, that snare really pops! Never worked with this engineer, so hopefully he’ll be one of the exceptions

This is your chance to save the bass race, while wielding a Thunberbird! Teach them not to fvck with the bass!

I tried a guitar cab simulator pedal, in my quest for bedroom/home recording options. I didn't find it useful.

I’m trying to simulate a Guitar atm due to current shortfall of options. People stuff :) .
Anyway stumbled over a video on ‘power chords for bass’ or similar, so having a go to see if I can manage a guitarish tone for a couple of songs.
Surprisingly to me, the P and the Goth sounded pretty good, the best of my bunch anyway. Nice ring.
Not sure it is workable other than as a novelty.
I also ordered a ‘washboard tie’ includes 2 metal thimbles. :)

Can you tell I want some variety from total accordion accompaniment... :)

When do you get to hear a final mix and master?

Not sure...Eskimo Brothers are looking to do a 7”. So we’re cutting 3 songs and using 2, assuming they work out. Some outside person is financing it, so I’m not sure about the details. Remains to be seen whether the opinionated producer in me starts spouting off, or if I keep my mouth shut and do the session :)

We're (Wild White) most likely doing a 7". Why not make it 33rpm and use all three songs?
