There are basses, and there are Thunderbirds!
I still think stock Gibson pickups sound good! Alex Hacke uses the stock pickups too
And so do I, and that should count for something!

This may be blasphemy, but the only other bass i can hang with next to a Bird, is a Ric.![]()

+1...
Correct, better is always subjective. If I understood his question correctly it was - are the Eppi VP pups better than the standard Eppi pups - in which case I'd say yes IMO. Are they better than some Gibson pups I've tried, no IMO.
, No way Larry, i'm sticking to ratty sneakers and a t-shirt., No way Larry, i'm sticking to ratty sneakers and a t-shirt.
Is that super young Roger Waters?

Probably brought up to death already, but what strings are you using on your 'birds? I'm using Galli stainless steel 45-105
I'm gonna ask a question and hope it's in the parameters of the club because, honestly, this is the only part of TalkBass I feel comfortable. I own 3 basses. Of course my Thunderbird, an MIM Jazz Bass strung with flats, and a Squier P-Bass. I don't play the Squier because it was given a long time ago to me by my Grandfather who now has dementia. I've always been careful with it so it's still in nice condition, but my situation is whether I should go ahead an retire it to the case so nothing ever happens to it or if I should play it. My problem is because he gave it to me to play after I sold my only bass some years ago and he was in good health then. Things are very different now. What do you think?
Sure, I think I've got 40 bucks in my pocket. We should, since we all know better than 'they' do, buy up Gibson ourselves, and fix all the things.
At the very least, a button up shirt, with only half the buttons done up...

Alright, alright... jeez... you look pretty darn cool with that Ric.![]()
Expand that to everything with strings and that's me.
Is that what those are??? I've been poundin' the hell out of it, but my bejeebers must be stuck![]()
You know, it's not every day you encounter a group of such high-quality people. I have the most basic, entry-level made-in-Korea Epiphone Thunderbird, and yet I'm treated as an equal. I'm truly grateful.
Dang near forgot about the string thing
I have DR Hi-Beams (.45-.105) on the BlueBird. I like the zingy top end and easy playability
The new Gretsch is strung with EB Cobalt flats (.45-.105). Not being familiar with the bass OR the strings previous to ownership, I can't really comment on the effects of the strings specifically... but I love everything about this bass just the way it is, and have no desire to change anything! I can say that I find them remarkably easy to play on, and love, love, LOVE the tone!!!![]()
