Thunderbird Club

This may be blasphemy, but the only other bass i can hang with next to a Bird, is a Ric.:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

I said it before, if you must play a Ric then you must wear a puffy shirt.

Correct, better is always subjective. If I understood his question correctly it was - are the Eppi VP pups better than the standard Eppi pups - in which case I'd say yes IMO. Are they better than some Gibson pups I've tried, no IMO.

Put that way, I couldn’t agree more :)

I actually love the modern stock Gibson pickups for what they are. They sound great and I still use em from time to time on certain things.

Probably brought up to death already, but what strings are you using on your 'birds? I'm using Galli stainless steel 45-105

I am using D'Addaro 45-100 Half-Rounds on my Epi Classic. I like 'em, they sound pretty good - especially if I'm not the one playing! I also like the 7ender 9020Sl flat set, it's on my Jaguar. My other basses have Dunlop Super Bright rounds (45-105) 'cause I got a deal on them at a LGS.

I'll have to look into the Galli strings, haven't heard much about them.

I'm gonna ask a question and hope it's in the parameters of the club because, honestly, this is the only part of TalkBass I feel comfortable. I own 3 basses. Of course my Thunderbird, an MIM Jazz Bass strung with flats, and a Squier P-Bass. I don't play the Squier because it was given a long time ago to me by my Grandfather who now has dementia. I've always been careful with it so it's still in nice condition, but my situation is whether I should go ahead an retire it to the case so nothing ever happens to it or if I should play it. My problem is because he gave it to me to play after I sold my only bass some years ago and he was in good health then. Things are very different now. What do you think?

Play the Hell out of it - That's what he gave it to you for... And the best way to honor him, would be to play the bass he gave you! :)

Dang near forgot about the string thing:facepalm::rolleyes:

I have DR Hi-Beams (.45-.105) on the BlueBird. I like the zingy top end and easy playability

The new Gretsch is strung with EB Cobalt flats (.45-.105). Not being familiar with the bass OR the strings previous to ownership, I can't really comment on the effects of the strings specifically... but I love everything about this bass just the way it is, and have no desire to change anything! I can say that I find them remarkably easy to play on, and love, love, LOVE the tone!!! :hyper:

So, I take it you kinda like it?
