Ordered new strings for the ‘02 Gibson. In the meantime, put some basically new Colbalt flats on, which sound pretty terrific with the Lollars...think I’ll use that set up at the gig tomorrow
Would love to hear a sound clip of the '02 with Cobalt flats. Isn't that the bass you had the Black Beauties on? If so, I'd be very interested in your take on the difference in sound between the two strings.

Hey all, I haven't attempted to catch up, so I'm utterly clueless as to everybody's state, hope you all are doing great.
As for me, I sold my EB-3, got a previously blowed-up, older powered JBL sub repaired which will be the bottom end of a bi-amp rig, and poking at repairing/sprucing up what I've got to play music on.
It's tough market for selling used gear, tell you what...

Plan 9 is starting to get our recording thing together, we've got an older (now) Fostex LV2424 HD machine, running into it with an old "Soundtech" board. A compromise, to be sure, but we're still looking out for something with better mic pres. Anyway, we're getting good sounds printed, we'll be having a long rehearsal Sunday to see how we'll do nailing some stuff down.
This "doing it on a shoestring" trip is ok, but has its issues... we play in a "music complex" with other bands sometimes right nextdoor... at rhrsl the other night I walked over and popped in on some guys to ask em to please bring it down a notch... they were cool- and of course I began with, "You guys sound really good, how long you been together..." yadda-yada. Lol. They were quite good actually. But recording there will be catch-as-catch-can, at best.

I've got 3 basses now, my old Hamer Mutant Cruisebass, my ThunderStein (w/DiMarzio Model One p'up), and a MM Stingray copy OLP. Got that one last summer for $100, and a friendly local here sent me, for almost free, a Tone Monster harness and MM style pup for it. So what with the recording thing going on I'm just tweaking them up and playing them. They're all good players, and a good spectrum from midrange "affordable" to intro-garage cheep!

I'm also giving it a run with some friends who are doing an 80s cover band. Some of us were in a Portuguese pop/dance band for 3 years, which was a good time. They want to gig once a month to start, we'll see. If the wife doesn't put the kibosh on it...

This is the year we "finish" our house, maybe put it on the market. So I'll be up to the bridge of my nose in work, continuing my mostly silence around here, though from the notifications I get it appears my absence hasn't had a crippling impact on the chat-rate here!

Just wanted to touch base, and I haven't forgot about posting some samples of my 'Bird with the Model One pup. Will get something up I hope in the next couple weeks.
Peace you guys, enjoy your music!

Hi Roger!
Good to hear from you.

Nice to hear from you! Sounds like you have been very buy indeed. Best of luck in your projects!!

Looks like Epiphone is cheaping out on the Vintage Pro already. On the Sweetwater site the bass listed as 8 lbs. 6oz. Has different tuners, the shafts are tapered and shorter. Not the Wilkinsons on earlier basses.

Good catch. I just checked mine and it has the shorter shaft tuners but they're still branded as Wilkinsons. I think it's a non-issue. My serial number starts with 1711.

I'm certainly grooving on the way it looks hanging on my wall. Action was high out of the box and the truss rod needed some tweaking. She sounds great although I was having a hard time reigning in the dirt from the bottom end at the volume levels we were at. We are pretty loud.
Some new strings, oiled up the fretboard and lowered the pickups some. I'll have it back in the studio tomorrow to see how the changes work.
Above all else, the woods used are gorgeous. It looks like leopard pelt. The back of the neck is just beautiful.

Would love to hear a sound clip of the '02 with Cobalt flats. Isn't that the bass you had the Black Beauties on? If so, I'd be very interested in your take on the difference in sound between the two strings.

I had Black Beauties on the ‘14, which I really liked for some things. At least I think they were on the ‘14. Did a lot of experimenting at first and am losing track of what all I did :)
The Cobalts sound real nice with the Lollar pickups, which Jeff has been saying all along! I’m still trying all kinds of stuff just for fun. Was very pleased with the Lo Riders on the ‘02. I have Ken Smith Bass Burners on the ‘14 w/ stock Gibson pickups and it sounds very nice. Nickel Rotos on the Cataldo w/ TB ‘66 pickups sounds fantastic to me. Well pleased with that combo

Cobalt flats, Lollars. Nice combo indeed.

Yep, you’re certainly right about that!

After your Demo I couldn't resist Duke . Ordered for 180.00 shipping included.

Hope you like it! It’s a great sounding box and does the thing I bought it for. Kinda spendy, but a really nice piece of gear!

Sweet! I’m what way would you say it sounds better?
A little bit more comes through if that makes sense. I'd say a bit more highs and a little less congested. Or I could be hearing things that aren't there based on the fact that I spent money and time on a project and I don't want it to all be for nothing. #resultsmayvary
