I very nearly bought a Nikki Sixx bird last year (ish) that looked like it had been kept in a fish tank. Hindsight I should have. I like jazz basses a lot, I like thunderbirds too, is one better than the other? No is the answer every day of the week, they are just different. They to me also have similarities and I can interchange between them very comfortably. If you really want a Blackbird get one, you won’t regret it, just get used to it and you’ll fit each other like a glove. Ignore all the boll0cks about neck dive, no they’ll never be as balanced as. Jazz but it won’t be bad and a jazz will never make you as happy as the bird will

I prefer the cover to just having a hole there, personally. Some aging process could be cool
I bought a dummy cover awhile back, thinking I was going to take the bridge pickup out of my ‘02 Gibson, but changed my mind. On the live looping stuff, sometimes soloing the bridge pickup is nice on less bass heavy content. Some effects track better

On all my passive birds that's absolutely the case with the volume control. At 9.5 I get full dynamics, as I approach 10 and peg the volume it does get a hair louder but also resets the tone to a brighter setting, not necessarily less bass but definitely more upper mids and treble. Not the case on my active bird with the Aggie preamp. YMMD
So, funny story time.
Today was my final exam, went well but besides the point. I also moved out of my current college house. Got home, went to my room to put some stuff down and noticed that my StingRay was moved and not sitting in the rack properly, strange but my dad was probably bored one afternoon and started Googling EBMM basses or something and wanted to compare something or other... I dunno, he's weird. So I look around and everything seems to be in order for the most part...
THEN out of the corner of my eye I notice something weird... there was something different about the rack that contains my white EB-3, Thunderbird Studio V, and an acoustic guitar.... OH THERE'S AN ADDITIONAL WHITE BASS!! And there laid THIS...

I can't provide an accurate comparison to a Gibson because I need to put some foam under the pups to raise them up more. But what I can say is that it is a completely different animal from a post-88 Gibson Bird, but by now most of you have heard that more than once.
Today was my final exam, went well but besides the point. I also moved out of my current college house. ...that's good enough for me. Now, if she changes up on that pic I'll have an identity crisis for a few hours until I get used to the new Kat, but that's the nice thing about getting older, short term memory goes out the window.
Sweet! What a great surprise to come home to. Mine is very different from my Gibson or Goth bird also very reflective of the strings on it. Happy NBD!
