Warmouth used to make Thunderbird shaped bodies. I wish they still did.

I've been looking at the options. The Pure Vintage pup as found in the AVRI63 P sounds right up my street and I was quite taken with Mark's Drake ... a FrankenP has been lurking in my imagination.

The body spec is very simple. Alder with split-pea rout, back routed cavity, single volume control and side jack. The finish is around 60% of the cost, but that's still substantially cheaper than getting it done locally.

Not sure what I would do about the neck yet. The Warmoth necks seem quite expensive, even with basic options, no fancy inlays and what have you.

I was in the U.K. today. Also Canada, Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Morocco and France. OK, I was in EPCOT World Showcase eating and drinking myself silly. It's great to have a relative working at WDW and getting in free!:laugh:

Sounds like your body options will be relatively low cost. To save money on the neck consider selecting a neck that does not need a finish (i.e. Rosewood or wenge neck with a matching fretboard).

Had a fretless Warmouth neck with an Ebony board, it was gorgeous sounding. I would do that again.

$185 alder + $20 back rout + $265 finish = $470.

Neck
$225 maple/ebony + $25 Hipshot ULs + $25 nut + $20 abalone inlays + $70 nitro = $365.

$305 wenge/ebony + $25 Hipshot ULs + $25 nut + $20 abalone inlays = $375.

The wenge would look hot.

1,210 for a custom bass, this is good.
