I also saw (on Reverb) this '67 in Pelham blue with both covers, mute and a brown Gibson HSC w/fuchsia lining & cover for about the same money.

Have these 60's birds gone up recently, possibly because of Gibson sinking? Not so very long ago a '64 would sell for around $7k tops. These prices are over double that.

Hmmmm. Even with the headstock repair and the working bass dings, mine must be worth $10K +/-

I just posted a comment on that thread. Yes, looks like brokers in Japan are mucking things up on eBay. An instrument search there is a real mess these days. Just looking at the Sweetwater site and the Tobacco Sunburst VPs run from 9lbs to 10lbs 3oz. That's a fair bit of variation! How much does a typical Classic Pro weigh? And do they vary that much?I'm not gonna tolerate much more of this tolerance discussion!
Seriously, it might be possible that Epiphone had to scramble to increase production due to much better than expected demand. Remember the price bump, probably done to trim the demand by a few percent (while not hurting the bottom line). And remember the tuner change up in mid stream, probably also in an effort to meet increased demand that outstripped their original inventory. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that some production has been shopped out to other CNC shops in the area in order to meet demand. I've had to do that in the past with my machine shops in China and Korea. What I ended up with was exactly what we're seeing on the newer Eppis - slightly different products close enough to the original design specs to approve but at the limit on acceptability. Different shops have different equipment, different operators, different programmers, different QC processes and different production goals. That stack up in differences could easily result in the minimal body and neck thickness dimensions we are seeing.
Asking price and actual selling price are two different things. I don't think the market is good enough to support those prices, at least not currently.

Actually some of the early VPs were running down in the low 8 pound range. I seem to recall someone even claiming they got one under 8 pounds. And I've seen one or two listed at around 10.5 pounds. So yes, lots of variation. My experience, if you can't try before you buy, get the lightest one you can find. It probably won't sound much if any different than a heavy one, but at least your back will thank you. No idea what the CP weighs, but the VP is such a good deal on a stellar bass I'd take it over a CP right now.

I'm in Canada near Vancouver. The VP is $820 CAN at Long & Mcquade right now - which is a great deal. (If I ordered one from Sweetwater it would cost me $920 CAN)
But there is no local stock at L&M to try before I buy. I could order one in and return it if it's too heavy, but I don't want to abuse the L&M return policy.

Many, many thanks to Instagator for the Gibson Pickups!! The Blackbird I bought had Bartolinis and he came through with some OEM PUPs and I’m over the moon about it!!! Now she sounds like a Tbird should. Absolutely amazed at the difference in tone. The Bart’s sounded OK, but nothing like my other Tbird. Now with the Gibby’s In the Blackbird, it romps like crazy. It has a more aggressive tone, and a crazy low, growly low end that is just monstrous through my SVT.
