OK, question for the 'Bird brain trust. I may need yet another bass amp for reasons that may or may not pan out. If I do, what do you all think of class D Ashdown amps? My brother had a 410 combo that was a bear to move, but sounded outstanding. I would probably go with a 210 cabinet for stage volume and DI for the audience. Good idea? Bad idea? Better ideas?

I keep saying I don't want more than about one gig per month, especially when the pay is $18 and a beer. But, I keep ending up with more than that, mostly on upright. I gotta charge more or something.

OK, I don't know your current amp arsenal, but I'm Very happy w/ my Rumble 200C. You might prefer the R500 w/2x10s. Add a a second cab-either 1x15 or another 2x10 and have lotsa cojones and light weight.

Current arsenal includes an original Acoustic 360 and a Grexa reissue. That's the sound. I also have a Carvin MB12 and 115 extension cab for smaller gigs and use more with the upright than a 'Bird. The one I'm asking about would be a 'Bird amp. All about being thunderous, but smaller, lighter, and able to be left at a rehearsal space and picked up by whoever happens to be there when it needs to be moved.

I'm quite pleased w/ the Rumbles(I know-7ender)but you could"rent"one from one of the online outfits and return it if ya don't like it. I'm just too effing old to f*** with heavy amps on an inandout basis.(that's ool behind the"f")

The saddles are a different height as well, but someone here can back me up on the neck angle. It's been discussed in the past. Measure the raised center by the E string side by the bridge post on both basses. Mine is different by about 1MM or so according to my digital caliper. I can't get a picture because I'm not talented enough to hold the caliper, measure, and take a picture.

I’ll give you a MM difference, but it’s not much more than that. I just took a measurement. Tell me what you think.


Blackbird, then Cherry Tbird measured with the same straightedge and photographed at close to the same as I can get it. The difference is incredibly small, but maybe I’m measuring wrong? I see 1/4 inch from the top of the body to the bottom of the straightedge at the end of the fretboard

I pick them up when I don’t want to replace all the LPs I have with CDs.

There is only so many times I’m happy to give the record company my money for the same tracks. ;)

But if I love it enough I end up picking up the CDs anyway, and DVDs, and sometimes downloads...
