I didn't say it has iron. I said it has ferric properties...

I must admit to being a bit lost here, molecular structure was never a topic of any interest. I understand the iron 2 and iron 3 ferrous, ferric thing but copper? At a guess this is about electron orbits and magnetic properties, iron has some electrons in a specific orbital shell (i forget how many and which) that gives it it's magnetic properties rather than copper's oxidation value

Just looked at the periodic table, iron - 26, copper 29, ferric iron has 3 extra electrons equalling copper. Ferric properties, should have realised that :roflmao:

Yup, that's it. It's about it's magnetic properties. Forcing bipolar domains to try and orient themselves to a polarity of a magnetically induced current and in the friction generated among themselves in doing so, dissipate magnetic energy in the form of heat much like iron does. When you reduce the H (magnetic) field the E (electric) field diminishes proportionally creating the desired cancellation.
 
Yeah forgot about that,I had seen it before but it never struck me enough to think about it. I do remember watching the Highlander movie and instantly noticed when the guy goes to swing his Samurai sword at the roof of a 1970 Chevelle 2 door and as the sword makes contact they cut film and all of a sudden around the corner comes squealing a roofless 1975 Dodge Dart 4 door...."4 DOORs?. Or Vanishing point ends with a Dodge Challenger crashing into a bulldozer and the burning wreck reveals a Chevy Camaro rear end. :roflmao: @GBassNorth and @Dr_Feelgoood212 wherever you are. You know this.
Don't think I've seen those flicks, but I'm sure I would have cought those details as well. Funny thing is, after years of listening to me rail on about car related stuff in movies, my wife has become as much a critic as I am. We'll be watching a movie and she'll ask, what year do you think this flick was made. We can usually guess within a one to two year accuracy by looking at the cars in the movie.

Another funny car clip was the Fast and the Furious movie, where one of the characters is driving down Highway 1 in California north of Malibu near county line beach. He comes up on a black Ferrari and wants to race. They hit the gas at Tonga street and run thru all four gears in a full throttle street race scene that lasts probably 30 seconds at least before they arrive at the Neptune's Net biker bar. For the record the actual distance from Tonga street to Neptunes net is maybe 100 yards. The wife and I crack up every time we see that one.
 
Well that's enough of being smart, my head is hurting and we'll get a bad reputation amongst the Tbird brethren :roflmao: Time to talk about pies or burgers.

Burgers :woot: Do you guys make your own or buy them? If you make them what's your recipe?
Hey you started it!....hmmmm. ....Burgers....
half rump steak (minced:laugh:)
half sirloin steak (ground)
salt and pepper to taste. Nothing else!
My wife likes them charbroiled so 3 minutes on each side. Me, I prefer them fried (like the originals) 3 1/2 minutes on each side. Never squeeze them against the cooking surface. Of course cooking time will vary with thickness and preference. Add cheese 1 minute prior to removal.

It's weird seeing stuff on TV in places you know well, there was one a few years ago made in my neighbourhood and this guy walked down a hill and around the corner, maybe 20 yards but in reality the two places are 60 miles apart :roflmao: I can never get back into it after things like that

That sounds nice, you guys in the States take steak a lot more seriously than we do over here, we get minced beef :roflmao: it pays to go to a good butcher to buy meat here, still not sure what it is they've minced but it's a ton nicer than the garbage we get from a supermarket.

Sounds like a winner. Yeah charbroiled is what we called the method you described of slightly charring them over coals. Ever try crumbled Stilton on a burger?

Or when they call your hometown something else? Santa Cruz is Santa Carla in the movie Lost Boys and like you said, the lack of accuracy in the filming surprises (confozzles?) the local..

I may be wrong here, but as I recall, copper has 10 electrons in it's D orbital meaning that the orbital is filled and therefore electronic dipoles are cancelled meaning that copper should not have magnetic properties (under ordinary circumstances; all bets are off once you are into exotic states of matter). Iron, Cobalt, and Nickel have unpaired electrons in their D orbitals that make them magnetic because of the unpaired dipoles produced.

I was under the impression that the shielding properties of copper were a result of free electrons in the S orbital making it an excellent conductor, so any stray currents (static etc.) can quickly be shuffled off to ground.

I could be wrong - I don't do inorganic chemistry.

As a native Miamian, watching Miami Vice used to crack me up constantly. In a chase scene, they'd turn a corner and suddenly be miles away. Location, Location, etc.:laugh::confused:

Sorry, this is all beyond me, it's been 15 years or so since I last had anything to do with this, I've been thinking about so many other things since then it is lost knowledge. I prefer burger recipes these days :)
