Thunderbird Club

In high school I had one of these:

Yep - yellow.

Getting it to run right involves taking it to a German mechanic. Maybe the manuals in German tell you the real way to tune it? You never wanted to boost the battery - it was tough to get at - it was under the back seat. But it was easy to bump start. Handled like a truck. I think it generated a whole 50HP (when new, mine was probably closer to 35).

There is a trunk in the back (above the engine) with a latch in the driver's door frame. I don't think I ever used the trunk in the front. I kept a case of beer in the back and we used to go out to my car at lunch to listen to Black Sabbath and drink beer.
And they were wired for positive ground....smart Germans!!..

They're a Seattle band from the mid '70s, I saw them quite a few times as they played at high school dances and at Lake Hills Roller Rink. They opened for Nazareth the first time I saw them, I guess in '76 that night the bassist played hi s Thunderbird and had a 4001 Rick as a second. Nazareth was pretty kick#$@ too, Pete Agnew played an EB-3 through a wall of Marshalls, this was the tour for "Rampant", the opened with "Silver Dollar Forger". The Paramount was a bit tatty back then but had great acoustics, I was about 5-6 rows back and of course neglected to bring ear plugs( I was both indestructible and stupid in my youth! ), We thought nothing of skipping school and sitting out front all day long for a good seat, tickets were probably all of $5.00.
Coming forward to about 2008 I met one of the guitarists while working at Seattle Lighting and of course mentioned the Nazareth show, he recalled it and the bass player's Thunderbird, and said "I wonder what he did with that thing"

Misspent youth!

I saw Nazareth mid-late 80s in Halifax, NS. They played one of the bars that was off limits (bars would be placed off-limits by the base commander for any number of reasons including illegal activity and soldiers getting into trouble). So I saw both the Friday and Saturday shows. No one would see me there because it was off limits or if they did, they would be in at least as much trouble as me.

Good thinking.

I know that word from installing them around plumbing supply pipes. Sometimes being a knuckle dragger makes you erudite. Who knew!

Here's a case I just ran across while looking for a case that would get my inspection stuff on and off airplanes without being destroyed. It's expensive, and at 50" inside, it might not be quite long enough, but maybe at an angle a 'Bird would fit. I think it's the longest one they make, but maybe they make a longer one. Pelican cases are just about as tough as you can get.

Pelican 1750 Case with Foam | Rifle Case | Long Gun Case
Thanks for the idea! We have a Pelican dealer here in town and they have a 1750 in stock. I am going to take the 50.5 inch TBVP in to see if it fits. I have a Pelican case for another sporting good and it is great.
I can't get Coffin Cases (dead?) or BaCH Musik (August in EU) to respond to emails.
