It's great there. I've been a bunch of times, first time in 1984 for the World's Fair. One thing I never forgot was how they don't bury the dead because the water level is too high; they'd float away.

Yes, as a matter of fact, you probably would. Pretty much everyone in this club would fit right in there. You know you are not in Kansas any more when a skinny topless woman walks by carrying a huge glass of booze and nobody pays any attention. It wasn't even some special occasion or on Bourbon Street. It was a random Monday afternoon.

No 'Bird content, but I really like the drummer in this one. IT's a great song. Plus Rachael Price. No need to think too much beyond that. She's got to be the most expressive and blisteringly great singer of our current era.

She is very good - brings BR to mind - I saw young Bonnie (with Freebo on bass) in KC around this time and again in the mid 80's in Chicago.

That's some wild stuff, but I think kissing a cottonmouth (the snake, not a stoner) 13 times, only going to the hospital once, and living to tell the story (not that I would) is doggone impressive. Doggone STUPID, but impressive.

There's a reason I can't play bluegrass worth a crap, even though I play an upright bass most of the time these days if I'm not playing drums. It's all about the swing and the backbeat.

She usually sings with a band called Lake Street Dive. I have seen them three times now. The drummer is a beast, and the bass player treats the upright like a toy. She's a tiny little woman which makes what she does with a bass fiddle even more amazing.

I thought was her! We have been doing their version of Take on me.

Yes, she does. A singer I played with for a couple years has the same kind of style, and sounds like Billie Holiday and Madeline Peyroux. I had a lot of fun backing her.

We are playing a benefit for my lifelong friend Kurt Wunder who was recently diagnosed with and aggressive form of brain cancer. So far he is responding to well to treatment but the costs, even with insurance, are almost unfathomable.

So if you are in the area, stop by ad I promise to buy you a drink!

[Nocturnal]

NOLA is one of the very few places I would ever live, other than Seattle. It's got a rotted out, moldy, feral, probably toxic energy that's intoxicating. It's physically decrepit, in a way that only a city in a semi-tropical swamp can be. It is a horrible, wonderful place. It is also the only place I have ever been where there's a checkpoint by the hotel elevator. It's been a couple years, and I need go get there again.

That is a perfect description of that city. It can be a very fun place to visit.

As Carlo said, above ground is the part that makes it interesting. An all girl band from Phx (mostly) filmed this video in one of the famous graveyards in NOLA.
