Indeed amp/cabinet/combo needs investigation. My little Ampeg combo is fine for an EAGD bass, but add in a B string and it struggles. I imagine that there are combos that struggle with the open E. My solution was an MXR 10 band EQ. The sliders are all Bs from B0 (31hz) to B9 (4khz) +/- 12dB I think. Works very well.

Some people ghet lucky and get the rubber glove multiple choice test.

...and of course that performance test is administered verbally.

Obviously to keep things fair it's also a blind test, which doesn't mean you wear a blindfold, it just means the test giver stands close behind the test taker out of his eyesight and whispers questions in his ear.

The first question asked after the rubber gloves are in place is, "How many whole digits do I have on my right hand?" Think carefully before you answer, your performance is being noted.

The follow up question is usually, "how many hands are on your shoulders?" Again, your performance is being noted. Saying calm under pressure, being open and honest and displaying a good bass face are all important.
