What were your impressions of the Pure Blues? I like the TI Superalloys and GHS Pressurewounds, both with alloy 52. I have some Roto Nickles. Nice mids from what I recall.

I have Pure Blues on my JC. They are great strings for that bass; powerful low mids and tame top end. Sit really well playing with other people - you can be heard with those powerful low mids without stepping all over the guitar with twangy highs. That bass with those strings has garnered a number of compliments (because it couldn't be the playing).

Made it through my first 4 hour set since the whole exploding innards thing. Went better than I feared! Nearly back! Have two more 4 hour sets Friday and Saturday. Hoping things get a little better everyday

You’re amazing! I went through what I suspect was the same or similar thing in ‘15. It took a good three months to recover. Fine now with only a nasty scar. No C thank god...

love Vancouver but retire there?....I'm thinking more like Key Largo...
Hurricanes scare me more than earthquakes. Although my daughter has spent time in Florida and says it’s much better than she expected. Funny thing is, my Dad got transferred to the Cape when I was 9. My Mom said no way. Dad changed jobs and we stayed here. I love Canada. But realistically, we’re going to stay south of the border. Who knows.

Yesterday (10 or so pages back) I asked:

The only reply so far is

I'm not complaining about the lack of feedback because I am likely to do what ever I feel like doing anyway. But it would be interesting to get some outside points of view that I could ignore in the decision making process.

Let us know where you end up on strings. I think I am leaning toward Roto Nickels (but reserve the option of changing my mind to ignore feedback here :D ).
Didn't I recommend the SIT Powerwound for nickel, or was that for someone else?

Lived both places. I'll take a warning any day for a 'cane and a chance to hunker down vs being shaken out of bed by a quake announcing its arrival and sleeping outside for two days. I missed Northridge by a few years. A friend two blocks away from my Santa Monica apartment had his condo come down around him.

All set at The Metta Room for a two night stand. Thunderbirds, GK and SWR

There are independent coffee shops that can good. But at least as many have over-priced underwhelming coffee. I can make great espresso at home so I will choose that. But when travelling, I am looking for the McDonalds of espresso; coffee that is predictable from location to location at predictable prices. So, Starbucks it is. Not great but predictable and acceptable.
Yep. Bold. Black. No room. High octane. It’s consistent on every corner.

That was the last big one. I was asleep. The Whittier quake a few years before that was interesting; I was actually standing up in the men’s room, uh..you know, and shook from side to side. Didn’t last too long. You get used to it with little jolts once in a while. I’m convinced I’ll be gone before the you know what hits the fan and La Puente becomes beach front property.

+1. We've got a week to plan what we're gonna do(or not do). I'll take a hard pass on blizzards, tornados, earthquakes, etc. Yeah, it's hot and humid but that's why there's ac. I will admit I could do w/o the "love" bugs. Drove to Orlando last Friday. Spent 45 minutes with a pressure washer getting those things offa the van. :banghead:

My daughter has been in Orlando for the last couple of months. She says it’s growing on her. But she’s Boston bound for the next few years. Who knows.

IIRC, I've been through about 8-10 Hurricanes. Plenty of time to prepare and/or get outta town. I've done both.

My first hurricane was in 1952 when one took down a tree in our yard in Westbury, Long Island before we moved to Florida in '56. Donna, in '60 was the first serious one there.

Closest call with Mother Nature was in '74. Did a gig in Tuscaloosa. A week later the Gainesville Sun had a front page picture of the motel where we stayed, completely leveled by a tornado.
