Thunderbird Club

My daughter has been in Orlando for the last couple of months. She says it’s growing on her. But she’s Boston bound for the next few years. Who knows.

Orlando is worse than L.A. IMO I was back in November. When Metrorail LAX /Crenshaw is built it will just about complete a system that's a viable alternative to cars. That's not going to happen in Orlando.

...I'm not complaining about the lack of feedback because I am likely to do what ever I feel like doing anyway. But it would be interesting to get some outside points of view that I could ignore...

Strings are one of those things I try and be less aware of, as long as I'm getting a thing out of the bass I'm playing that I like. That's because they're an expense! There are a few sets I know I like, and, being a creature of some habit, I tend to stick with them. It's not helpful to other people who may need advice, but I can afford beer!

I once considered a move to Vancouver. But they wouldn’t take me. Trying to decide where to retire to. It ain’t going to be here in Cali if I can help it.

Move over here to my area. I plan to retire (some day way in the future) in Prescott. Fun little town that is close enough to Phoenix to get here in a short-ish drive, but far enough away to not get all the summer heat. It actually has at least 3 seasons there.

Yep. In Pelham Blue.
Heck, I'll take it in purple with pink polka dots as long as the Eppi NR is built to the same spec as the VP.

Yesterday (10 or so pages back) I asked: (about strings)
The only reply so far is...

Let us know where you end up on strings. I think I am leaning toward Roto Nickels (but reserve the option of changing my mind to ignore feedback here :D ).
What am I chopped liver? Check post 115845.
Just got done playing the VP with the guys and I'm finding the Fender 7150M strings are the bomb on the VP. Maybe THE perfect string for VP finger players. Dirt cheap, easy to find, last long so far.

The Bay Area doesn’t even come close to the problem in LA. Construction everywhere. To correct the problems based on 2010 stats. I can’t wait to leave.
Amen!

Yep. My volts come from PG&E. Waiting for the shoe to drop. Run by a bunch of as****es. I don’t want to be banned, so I’ll shut up now.
Right there with you!

Sorry - East Atlanta where the hipsters play... .

I’ve just had a 2 day course on a quantitative risk analysis model. One of the first in Australia of this model I gather, and the booklets were still in US terminology and a US guy came over as instructor.
So it was all gallons, miles etc plus the chances of being attacked by a Grizzly Bear... caused some amusement as those chances are pretty bloody low in Australia; and especially so in Sydney unless jumping into the enclosure at Taronga Park Zoo.

Two peoples separated by a common language. :D

I apologize, missed that one.

And what do you have against chopped liver?

Found an old pic of the battered body, the pick up screws had gone through the back too

+1. We've got a week to plan what we're gonna do(or not do). I'll take a hard pass on blizzards, tornados, earthquakes, etc. Yeah, it's hot and humid but that's why there's ac. I will admit I could do w/o the "love" bugs. Drove to Orlando last Friday. Spent 45 minutes with a pressure washer getting those things offa the van. :banghead:
'Nother trip to Orlando today(145 miles). Earlyish start means fewer love bugs-hopefully.
Update: worked-5 minutes with a hose-done.:hyper:

I'm trading a 4 string for a fiver today, this morning. The dude is coming from a state over and I'm already getting remorse.
A friend built the 4 string Squier for me, charged me for parts. I haven't been playing it since I got the Bird, and feel I need a 5er... reggae band, 80s band, other gigs have calls for lower tunings... I'm trying to be pragmatic. I'm not in a position to just add to my quiver, gotta let something go... just trying to be able to work, be prepared.
Dammit.

Okay I'm good now, worked it out. Thanks for listening.

I have Pure Blues on my JC. They are great strings for that bass; powerful low mids and tame top end. Sit really well playing with other people - you can be heard with those powerful low mids without stepping all over the guitar with twangy highs. That bass with those strings has garnered a number of compliments (because it couldn't be the playing).
That really describes the TI Superalloys on my '64. I like the really big-but not booming lows, very present lowish mids, highs that are very much there but not steely, brittle or glassy sounding. Like you, I have no desire to compete with guitars. That bass with those strings is my most complemented bass as well. For that reason I was thinking of using the TI SAs, but the tying the DA PBs seemed really interesting as well.

I did use GHS Pressureworunds (same material) on my VP and it did sound fantastic. It's now got some TI SAs to see the difference.
