I’ll join in on the Ernie Ball love. I put these on the VP at the beginning of the month, took it to practice tonight. It sounded amazing. I was really shocked at how clear they were - fingers & pic. There’s a little bit a boom but I think it was most likely my bad job in EQ’ ing. I will definitely buy a second set and see how things go.

Was playing 90s.
Encouraging!

I think those are the Cobalt rounds. Prolly sound amazing. But since our group does 60s-70s, a little bright.
Yep - rounds they are!
I am curious about the experiences with EB Rounds here. I have never tried them, but they are inexpensive and readily available. The bird needs new strings; when Rotos die, they seem to expire quickly.* I got a bunch of strings from @SLaPiNFuNK not long ago and since I like to amortize the cost of delivery over several sets, I am not yet ready to order.

So, my choices are to put the DR Pure Blues intended for the JC onto the bird or buy a set at L&M L&M have a limited selection - anything D'Addario and anything EB. But DR or LaBella are sparse. I asked about ordering and the suggestion was anything D'Addario or EB is fast; anything else, find a store with them in stock and they will get them in from that store.

So, I am considering NYXLs - they have sounded good on many basses. But I am curious about EB. Are they as short lived as some say? Some great players use EB, but they get them free and have a tech install a fresh set for each show.

*My experience with the Roto life cycle - twangy good good good good good good good good good terrible.
I pick a bass at the beginning of each month and restring (that way I can keep up with it!). I play almost every day - sometimes for hours - and if I get a good month out of a set I use that as a barometer for quality, life, etc. Not my life, but the life of the strings. Anyway, here we are on day 23 and I tell ya these things are rocking.

They were a little bright at first but they quickly settled in.

So so far so good.

On my FSO P/J I've found D'addario EXL170s do the trick. They don't do the trick for Birds. My opinion, of course.

Have a similar drummer situation. Tonight he brought beer. Granted, it was poopiee but at least he tried.

V, that first pic is just about the coolest one I've seen of you.

Well thank you, good Sir!

Back 8-9 years ago I dated a photog, she shot us every show, which was nice, but she was a piece of work - even the sex couldn't fix that.

So on my 7enders I use 7250s, except on my P. Chromes are perfect on it. I have the Slinkies on my Peavey Foundation and if I recall correctly, on my cheap Sterling SUB. I like them.

As for great players who use EB, my dream girlfriend Nicki Monninger
Runs hybrid 45-105s on all her birds. Her tone is exquisite.

My Cobalt flats were a skoch bright at first-great for classic 'Bird sound but too much for our shtick. Just rolled off a little tone(5 +/-) and they were fine. Now I'm at 7 to 10 depending on the tune. Easy fix.

Here's some good info on Behringer.

That video is one of the reasons that I thought cheap experiment.

At $15 each, it was hard to pass up. Unfortunately, it isn't working. The octave does not sound great. If it is a copy of the Boss OC2 (as is claimed) it is a poor copy or the OC2 doesn't; sound great with bass. The overdrive could be good, but it produces some noise that even at low levels brings feedback. If it weren't for the noise, it might be a keeper. Oh well, L&M have a good return policy on used gear.

I had an OC-2. When we were bass, guitar, drums and lead singer, I would play the bassline up an octave w/the OC-2 providing the lower octave during guitar solos. It helped fill it up. Now I use an EHX Micro POG, playing the bass line in the normal(?)position w/ octave up providing an ersatz guitar unison. It's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
