Thunderbird Club

That video is one of the reasons that I thought cheap experiment.

At $15 each, it was hard to pass up. Unfortunately, it isn't working. The octave does not sound great. If it is a copy of the Boss OC2 (as is claimed) it is a poor copy or the OC2 doesn't; sound great with bass. The overdrive could be good, but it produces some noise that even at low levels brings feedback. If it weren't for the noise, it might be a keeper. Oh well, L&M have a good return policy on used gear.

So I’ll admit I don’t do effects. Never have, And maybe never will (unless I seriously try to master Squire’s lines on On The Silent Wings Of Freedom, which I’m pretty sure was one of the few tracks he recorded on his Tbird). But I’m open for suggestions.

IMO, it depends on what you're doing(genre wise)and your instrumentation. If we go out as all 4 of us, the POG stays in the duffel. One less thing to hook up in limited space. As a trio, I use it.

Have a similar drummer situation. Tonight he brought beer. Granted, it was poopiee but at least he tried.

Our drummer is the beer drinker in the band. I'll drink a beer at rehearsal but it's not mandatory, whereas with him - it is. With three of us mostly abstaining - he behaves himself. Guitarist is a no-alcohol person, and our keyboardist has a drink after we perform at the bar. (using our free-drink tickets woo-hoo) It works out well as we don't have to deal with that issue. Anyway, he's the second drummer I've been in a band with that drinks certain brands of beer. He likes and 'gets' better quality beers, but brings the certain brands. I'm not a beer snob - I just usually don't drink those brands... kind of like why I don't support Walmart. I suppose they are refreshing very cold on a hot day.

So they arrived. Thank you Jason. Going on the ‘15 this weekend. Any tips? Neck relief, bees d**k string height, pickup height? I’ll do a full setup with fret polish, F1 on the board...I’ll keep them on for a while and give them a shot. I’m replacing 7ender 7250s (nothing particularly wrong with them) I think. But I play the ‘15 the most of all my basses and love the feel of flats. Can’t wait to find out how they’ll work.
Put 'em on and play it. Anything less than a quarter inch is kinda low action. I might be kidding. I might not.

Macs are a perfect desktop OS for doing unix admin I think. I really don't remember much about VMS. Didn't it have better process management?

It had excellent process management. It had better file permission control, and shared variables, both of which I sorely miss in *nix.

As my daughter likes to say, I like my beer dark and bitter-like my soul.

I draw the line at paying more than I have to for the same or equal quality item.

I try not to support the worst of the worst. WalMart has wreaked all sorts of havoc on others in the name of cheap. (And an awful lot of what they have is junk.) But everyone has to decide for themselves, and there are good reasons not to shop at almost any large chain.

At band camp? I wasn’t an “official” band person in high school. But my guitarist/singer buddy was. He talked me into going to a retreat; I knew the band teacher and we convinced him to let me go. Let’s just say it was a lot of fun.
When I was in the high school band and orchestra, the other kids used to make fun of us. If they'd ever come on one of our band trips, they'd have learned to play something(triangle?)quickly.

I use these effects and have added a outboard BBE Sonic Stomp out of the MXR d.i.+ before the amp - both stay on, as does the BOSS CS-2. They all get used at various times in a set - usually in and out within a song. No need for anything else - each is pre-set for when engaged. Whatever helps get the sound you want. This does it for me.

The on sale set I ordered from Jason’s new shop should be here today. I understand Gbass is no longer infatuated with them on his ‘15, but I’m going to try them on mine to hear for myself.

I plan to put them back on the '15 soon.

I wouldn't say I'm put off by the Cobalt Flats on the 2015 bird. I think I t's really more a function of truly dialing in this beast properly.

An issue I had early on with the 2015 that I attributed to the strings was actually more a function of having the action set too low. Just barely high enough to avoid fret buzz but low enough that the strings were choking out vs ringing out. I raised the action a RCH and solved that problem, no more easily noticeable dead spots. Now I'm working on perfect G to E balance in regards to volume. That required raising the G side of the pups and lowering the E side. Something I haven had to do on my other birds but was always necessary on my P basses.

The last piece of the puzzle I'm still struggling with is the goofy volume/tone knob interplay. With the tone knob set to zero I get a relatively linear volume increase as I turn the volume knob from zero to nine. But if I take the volume knob to ten it's like the tone knob just got cranked to ten also. Huge upper mid or treble bump between 9 and 10 on the volume knob. My 2013 EB does this too, not as bad but it's there.

So looking at the set up issues I've worked through and the ones I'm still trying to resolve on the 2015, I can't help but scratch my head and recall - EB touts the Cobalts as an exceptionally bold string because of the extra strong attraction the string material has to magnetic fields. I don't have any way to measure the size or strength of the 2015 pup magnetic fields but they visibly are massive and I wouldn't be surprised to find out they're stronger as well. Makes one wonder how a different string would act on this bass.

Maybe tapes on it then.

What in tarnation is going on with the Bass Fuzz Deluxe?

I use a Broughton hi/lo pass filter all the time. The wireless receiver doubles as a tuner. A high and low octaver is there for rare specific reasons and so is an envelope follower. I do not remember what either of those is. It took a while to find them, and now they are out of mind until necessary. The only other shiny box on the board is a DI. The ToneHammer retired.
