Thunderbird Club

Not down with all the LZ bashing at all! Very important band (often terrible live, granted) who made groundbreaking recordings that totally changed how we think about making rock records. I don’t listen to em often (like most classic rock), but I totally get why they’re a thing

Out On The Tiles is my fav. Probably not for some others.

Easily one of, if not my fave Zep songs. I love how it sounds as if it is barely held together but it totally locked in at the same time. People like to take shots but like @dukeorock said, understanding what they and the Bealtes (among others) did in the studio is something I still draw on and aspire to when I go into a studio today. I never get close but a man's (or a woman) gotta have a goal......

The problem with so many 'rock gods' is they are living legends.
Good point. Take the dearly departed Dr. J. Saw him in the late seventies, can’t remember where. May have been the Santa Barbara County Bowl? It was quite the show. Very entertaining.

He opened for an Avett Bros. show I went to within the last couple of years. I was looking forward to seeing him. It was sad.

I’m getting really selective in what I’ll go to these days.

Like this one.

More on Led Zep. I have the Song Remains the Same vinyl box set that was released maybe a few years ago and I think it's wonderful. I also remember listening to the Houses of the Holy album relatively recently with a friend I know from the goth thing in the 80s and both of us remarking how damn good it was. So yeah, I'm a big fan.
I pretty much learned to play bass by playing along to Led Zeppelin 2 and Black Sabbath 1
Edit: also Some Girls and Get Yer Yayas out

Oh, I'm not bashing LZ, totally get why they're a thing, just not my thing. Just as rap music or electronica prolly isn't some other people's thing.

+1 thank you ......and the way we think about marketing rock records/bands..
<EDIT> that said, it seems they were more of an American phenomenon...not as popular elsewhere.....Grant knew his audience..

I like Zep a lot, especially most of the first four albums. I just lost interest in their later work. I still listen to them, including the songs that got lots of play. "Stairway to Heaven" was one of the few songs that *literally* stopped me in my tracks the first time I heard it. I barely managed to find something nearby to collapse on and just let the music absorb me.

"Immigrant Song" would probably have done that except I was lying in bed listening to my transistor radio[1] long after bedtime. My only peeve with Immigrant is that it's so short- although they certainly packed a lot into that time frame!

[1] The same thing happened, ironically enough, with Van's "Brown Eyed Girl".

I unintentionally cut an A string (Chromes) too short for one of my Precisions once and ended up with the dreaded break angle problem common to 7enders. I was able to get a single A to replace it. That set is now three years old and sounds great. I’m hoping to never change them on that bass again.

Chromes last a surprisingly long time. I had a set on a bass i no longer have. And if it weren't for the high tension, i'd be using them on one of my basses.

I have 2nd hand Chromes on my P copy. They seem to suit it well. I found the tautness disconcerting at first, but ok now.

I saw Page & Plant three times in the mid-90's... reluctantly. It broke my heart that they wouldn't invite JPJ and Jason and do a proper LZ 2.0 Tour for those of us too young to see LZ 1.0.

Yes, I saw Page & Plant in Sydney. They were good but I was disappointed no JPJ (especially) & Bonham Jnr.

I was cranky to watch a ‘Queen with Paul Rodgers’ show on TV and find there was no Deacon. Turned it off after a short while but found out later that it was Deacons decision to retire. Oops.
