Thunderbird Club

Over the decades I've learned to not get too worked up over any gloom and doom being pushed by scientists, especially relating to climate and health claims. It never comes true and frequently is exactly the opposite of what they predict.
This recent one is a perfect example...
The NPS Removes all "Glaciers Gone by 2020" signs at Glacier National Park, Montana after "Larger-than-Average Snowfall over Several Winters" - Electroverse
Besides, if I'm wrong and we do bite the dust in 30 years, I have no doubt some life form more worthy of this great planet will take our place. Until then, I plan to rock on.
I recall an environmental studies class in the 8th grade. Teacher was convinced we would see an ice age during our lifetime.

I recall those warnings in school that an ice age was coming. "The Scientists" said so. I have become far more skeptical since then.

I have also learned that "journalists" have very little ability to understand grammar let alone science. Science is not a popularity contest; consensus means nothing. If you start from a non-falsifiable hypothesis, if you don't outline what evidence would change your conclusion, if you can't accurately make predictions from your hypothesis, you are not doing science. I've been blinded b.......never mind.

but you are....science has always been about trial and error..

Funny thing about flats, at least for me, is that they frequently sound horrible by themselves in a practice setting but sound great in a live setting. Whereas rounds, to my ears, sound great in a practice setting but may or may not sound good live. I'm sure there's a scientific explanation for that, maybe something to do with fundamentals or bloom or attack but for what it's worth, it's something I take into account when selecting strings.
Same thing for basses, amps, cabs and effects. Something can sound great at home, but you don’t really know until you are playing with a band. And what sounds great in a 3 piece power trio, doesn’t necessarily work in a 7 piece R&B band.

and there's the culprit...as mentioned earlier...FR4 and high temps don't get along..

I have one. I am of two minds. It is OK but isn't as good as I expected, so I am torn about keeping it or getting rid of it.
Thanks! The small form factor is tempting and I have a power amp I could use when I need to bring more watts.
I could just get a VT bass or Scrambler and put that on my board. Of course that would mean getting a smaller tuner pedal...

I understand cost/quality trade-offs. You have to make them. But that was a bad call, assuming you want your amps to have a reputation for quality. Going by your comment; it's a bit blurry to see the issue.

I grew up with my Polish grandmother - an accordion is what my parents would have loved me to be interested in/play back when I was a kid! But I only wanted a guitar (of some sort!) Oh well... so much for an accordion like Lawrence Welk played!
Just think, you could have been in demand!

I did get a previous answer, describing a different hand position and I'm working on that.

On my other basses, my natural reflex is to play them the way you do and have my hand on or near the bridge and pick or fingerpick over or a tad left of the bridge pick-up (always both pick-ups ON). I like the sound, it's comfortable and I like the string tension at that point.

On a TBird, that position is a challenge, my arms are probably not long enough to cover the other end and give me the same comfort I have with the Fenders. Not giving up yet, still have the rental until July 19th !

Thx for coming back on this :)
Hang it low and rotate the neck up. You end up with straight wrists on both arms and an easy reach for both. It is different, but so are Thunderbirds. I play a P on occasion and it takes a bit of adjustment.

Well, we're still alive so I guess there's still a chance it could happen. Earth day 2020 is coming up, for a good laugh take a look at the scientific environmental predictions made 50 years ago on earth day 1970. Not one of them has come true and many are the complete opposite of what they predicted.

I guess it just goes to show that this great planet is an exceptionally complex ecosystem with more variables than scientists have currently taken into account. I don't expect them to totally figure it out in my lifetime or even my kids lifetimes, but I'm sure they'll claim they have. Oh well, what's a bass player to do other than - Rock On.
I like to think humans can learn from their mistakes. We do not do things the same as we did in 1970 any more. We can change as we learn what the consequences are. Those who do not learn are just yeast.
