Unsure about bass rigs, but I have yet to hear a digital rig that I thought sounded great with guitar.

AFAIK the Bass Flyrig is analog. I just read the octave is only octave down, so that kills the deal for me.

I understand cost/quality trade-offs. You have to make them. But that was a bad call, assuming you want your amps to have a reputation for quality. Going by your comment; it's a bit blurry to see the issue.

I like to think humans can learn from their mistakes. We do not do things the same as we did in 1970 any more. We can change as we learn what the consequences are. Those who do not learn are just yeast.

I think humans are perfectly capable of making new and interesting mistakes unencumbered by learning from previous mistakes. Moreover, I think humans can make the same mistake regularly believing it to be a novel mistake. But I remain an optimistic cynic.

Funny thing about flats, at least for me, is that they frequently sound horrible by themselves in a practice setting but sound great in a live setting. Whereas rounds, to my ears, sound great in a practice setting but may or may not sound good live. I'm sure there's a scientific explanation for that, maybe something to do with fundamentals or bloom or attack but for what it's worth, it's something I take into account when selecting strings.

Yes indeed. Flats do almost always sound better in a live mix. That's when most rounds fail me.

Most of my basses have flats as well. I'm trying to broaden my tonal palate. But often when I'm trying strings on a bass I just think, "Should have just slapped some flats on it." (That's all the slapping I can really do.) Flats are my go-to thick surround sound makers.

What we're experiencing in the US now is the result of the reaction to the late sixties and the groundwork to counter it started in the early-mid seventies. The movers and shakers operated in the the shadows deliberately to build the foundation for what is happening now. The only more recent 'fluke' was a certain host that proved beneficial to the long-range planers. No conspiracy theories - it's all in highly researched books and it's just up to the populace to educate themselves. (which is daunting at best)

No disagreements from me about that. But, what goes up, comes down. I can explain a perverse reason I'm optimistic, but that's more political and economic and should be carried out by PM or not at all.
