Thunderbird Club

So I’ll be experimenting with different stainless suggestions from the club that I’ve received.

Ken Smith Bass Burner nickel rounds ... for some reason people seem reluctant to try them.

I had a 'lying around the workshop' 'beat to hell' set of BBs come on a custom built bass a couple of years ago. When I put on a fresh set a few weeks later they sounded exactly the same. They just don't go dead.

But you're not an alien, or are you?

I want to like the J sound/ voice/ tone but it just sounds too anemic to my ears. I like the effect that a single coil adds to a P bass, especially when they are MFD pups and are installed in this platform ;)

Hmmm... John Paul-Jones on Physical Graffitti, through good headphones. The heaving, visceral growl under the solo section of Black Dog is pure animal.
That's the dude that made the Jazz bass happen.

string update:

I used the Cobalt flats for a few gigs. I like them, but for what I’m playing lately, I think my P does the flat thing differently, and I’ve grown to want that sound.

Back on went the stainless rounds from Dunlop. A couple more gigs done on those, and I think I’m pegging this TBird as a stainless round bass. Just enough definition with the pups still sounding really fat across all strings.

On a final note: HipShot delivered the goods. And for anyone counting calories (not me), .75 ounce total weight loss.

What's a 'calorie'? And at what tempo is it played?:smug:

Cool. And thank you. Makes a lot of sense.

Just to clarify, I was pondering this for one of my Jazz basses. I don’t have any trouble finding a good sound on my TBird VVT setup.

Right. It's generally true for any passive bass with two pickups and two pots to control volume.

That’s definitely on my radar. Ive not heard it myself, but I’ve read about it. Thanks for that reminder. Now I have another project. :bassist:

I’ve also pondered the potential usefulness of a single blend vs the two V pots.

I guess depends on the instrument, though i prefer dual volume over a single blend. Never liked having a blend function, if i wanted a master volume & tone with two pickups, i'd have a 3 way switch.

Edit: (Per tuner, so 3 oz total.)

Plus, they are clovers.
