Thunderbird Club

What I've learned here is that there are SO many variables that it's nearly impossible to find a wrong answer. Every bass has its own tone, its own vibe, its own life. Even if we mod them, it just makes them that much more tuned into what makes them OURS.
^^So true! They all have their own voice. If you’re lucky, you can find times to enjoy their individual vibes in cool musical settings.

Hey there Bird brothers! I have an opinion question!!

If one were to want to add a strap button extension via a plate from the neck heel, instead of adding a post and button to the upper bout itself, which of these configurations do you think would be more useful especially to combat the “bass rolling away from you” phenomenon? Mimicking where it would be and how it would be oriented as if you *were* using a post and button coming out from the bout itself (left side of pic) or placing the button facing forward from a flat plate (right side of pic)?

Thanks!!

Facing forward IMO

saw Ross Valory play one with Journey back in the 80's and became curious cause nothing offered that quality for that price...tried a friend's for awhile and really liked it....unfortunately my crowd was snotty (bummer) and viewed them as second rate instruments (that satin finish didn't help) which they by no means were...my friend's was finished natural.... seems like loads of country bassists were using them back then...
Yes, I noticed that as well back then about Ross. Used Peavey amps/cabs back them as well. So did I. Come to think of it, I must have been cool too!

The body was very nicely refinished. Neck is untouched and everything else original. In fact, all the finish is gone off the back of the neck so it feels like an EB neck, only better.

My refinished '66 J body with custom spec'd early '66 dot/bound neck/pops.

I do not feel a need to combat the body roll. But if I did, I would move the rear strap button higher. That is what Dingwall did (in a prettier way) to deal with roll and neck dive.

If you get the rear strap button above the midline, (Sir Issac) Newton says that the body won't roll.

Edit:
something like the xs mark here

It certainly won't. I did this on my '76 for a while (hole there from previous owner), but it just seemed unnatural for me.

very nice. I had a '66 years ago. It was refinished by a High School kid it seems. I painted it place and traded it for something.
same here! 66 painted paisley by some amateur...stunk of paint but played and sounded awesome....got tired of the finish and traded for a black Tele bass...stupid...regret it to this day but hey....i yanked the frets off my 76 Ricky too......what were we thinking?...:rollno::rollno:

I picked up this refin'ed 'Sixx' 90s T-Bird on Reverb for a pitance, can't wait to check it out when it arrives from mother Russia.

I already ordered a few knobs to give it tone and volume controls.

I've seen that before ... maybe I saw the listing. It's cool and the green stripe is unique. Getting the brown/fuchsia funeral case is a plus!

It was listed at Unisound in Japan without a Pickguard a while back, I had missed out on it but I had a bit of it's history through them it was played by a local bass player from a Motley Crue tribute band. I'm probably going to have a red pickguard carved for it by Decoboom, we'll see.
