Need bridge covers.
As with the brass mute, 9 out of 10 T-bird owners including Mr Turner removed them. I have 2 mutes (covers and spacers) that I removed in a box.

I could be wrong but I've yet to see anyone re-issue them. It wouldn't be too difficult to fab one. There's been a vintage one sitting on eBay forever for $350...

Hopefully it's fine since it's in the context of helping someone play a Thunderbird bass.
If one should experience pain while playing their Thunderbird (which many would agree has different ergonomic issues than many other basses) then I'd suggest that person find a doctor they trust and visit that doctor with TBird in hand. Strap it on and show the doc what you're doing and where it hurts. Ask the doc what he/she thinks is happening and what to do about it, but more importantly also ask the doc who they'd recommend to also look at the problem (maybe a sports specialist or some other specialist would have additional insight). The last thing I'd do is take random treatment suggestions from people on the internet.
Disclaimer: This is a legit Thunderbird related discussion, it does not apply to individuals experiencing pain while playing a Fender or other brand bass or doing other non bass related things. Those individuals need to look in the correct thread for that advice; and always consult a physician before beginning any new prescription or therapy. YMMV. Batteries not included. Thanks so much for the help! I don't currently have flats on any of my TBirds so I'll probably get the heaviest set of Cobalts I can find and put on it. I can't recall for sure if I've tried Cobalts on the 2015 but what the heck, if they don't sound good I can always slap the old strings back on. I did love Cobalts on my Eppi VP so they may end up there if nowhere else.

was asking Plaid about that the other day, i want to remove the one on my NR...@JIO, how are they fastened onto the bass? never removed the bridge on mine so i never looked underneath. i see three holes in your pic...three screws to the body? bridge?

They are pop-riveted on. I was able to remove the one on my '64 w/o damaging the thin brass too much, better than I did removing the one on my '63 years before. If I were doing it today I'd think about drilling through the rivets.
