Thunderbird Club

Yeah the VP’s are sweet.I bought one of the first Embassy Basses when they first came out. That was before the T-Birds were available.I moved the 760’s from the Embassy to another Bass and the sound followed the pickups..filled the open spots in the Embassy with Chinabuckers. When the VP Thunderbirds came out I bought two.A black and white..gotta love em.View attachment 3553812View attachment 3553813View attachment 3553815 View attachment 3553814

Three questions for you.
Didn't you install a drop D tuner on one of the Birds? Who made it?
Who makes the bass you put the Epi pups in?

I'm not easily impressed, and the Vintage Pro impresses me. I worry they will be discontinued so I want some on hand. They are a close second to my 60's Nonreverse birds.
Well, shoot. I guess that means it's time to start looking out for one. I'll probably never own a 1960s reverse, which is my version of the holy grail.

Yogurt? No.
Yogurt or sour cream can be eaten before the peppers coats the tongue and to a certain extent mitigates the heat, thus if one were to sit in some prior to the painful exit of said peppers you could expect similar relief.

Rubber gloves, that could be a fetish, I have a nice nurse's uniform.
The nurse uniform would look good with a white Thunderbird. Or a bright red one.

Capsaicin, the chemical that accounts for the spiciness, has a long aliphatic tail. This makes it very fat soluble. By eating or drinking anything that contains a decent about of fat (milk is a great choice because the fat is emulsified keeping the offending molecule away from sensitive mucus membranes) the capsaicin partitions into the fat removing the sensation of burning.
It's why pulled pork goes well with hot peppers.

Some might wonder that as I consider the bridge pup 'superfluous', why not remove it. It's a 1967 THUNDERBIRD IV. And except for the custom PG(still have the original-cracked around the upper bout screw) and the headstock repair*, it's original.

*and strings

Technically, the Orville is vintage, but it's an Orville, so ripping out the superfluous electronics and putting them in a box is no big deal for me. If I had the spons to drop on a 60s Bird, I'd be looking for a II for sure. I'm not a complete barbarian.

Moral of the story - do not play rugby with a Thunderbird. The headstock dissolves.

Both Birds have Hipshot drop D tuners. The white one has the larger style and the black one has the smaller size. Epiphone changed the back plate of the Wilkinson tuners within the first year I believe.I think they are BT1 and BT2's
The Red bass is a short run called a DBZ Diamond. Not sure if they even make them anymore. It plays great and really
looks cool.Putting the 760's in was a no brainer for me...The DBZ has a hipshot GB7 drop tuner.

Which works great till you didn't realize you touched a spot where a little got on your face or something. Or you picked it up from the napkin. Or a smidge got onto the fork handle. So just on principle, I wash.

My first chilli experience.

Still at school, went to my mates place one day. They lived above/behind a fruit & veggie shop, Italian heritage. (He used to say Sicilian but I think that was a Godfather thing).
Anyway, playing cricket in the backyard. He hits it into the garden. I reach in and must have brushed the chillies that were growing between the flowers, bushes etc. I rubbed my eye.

Oh My !!! I went home, tried to wash it out with a eye bath thing.

THAT’S WORSE!!!

I thought I had blinded myself but it eventually subsided.

Should look great. Be warned, this is what you'll get with no filler...

With a thick clear coat it'll feel smooth as glass but you'll still be able to see the grain and wood pores. It's a unique love it or hate it look. Filler is the safer route if you think you'll ever sell it.

I like the look of my 50th Anniversary Golden Bird. The clear coat is nice and even and the grain patterns underneath add an interesting dimension to the finish. Unique in a good way to my eyes.

I love the uniqueness of mine as well.
In a world of black, white and wood stained Mahogany it really stands out.

I flunked out of electronics class in college. I'll steer clear of this part of the conversation.
It has been a long time since I did any electronics and I remember just enough to be dangerous*

*Dangerous meaning a vague recall of how things work and an ability to make things go pop, bang, and release the magic smoke that makes things work. Unlikely to electrocute myself, but reasonably likely to electrocute someone else.
