Thunderbird Club

yes, one road in (Hwy 9) one road out...bunch of fallen redwoods blocking passage...remarkable how folks pulled together..."trade you a PBJ for a shower" sorta thing....pretty cool..
Trade one of these for a shower? (Navy version of B-25)

If I understood what I read on here s gazillion pages back, when a pickup is taken out of a circuit the result is ‘better*’ than it is just turned down to zero.

Is that the case when a switch is used to default to the other pickup ?

* better is not a definitive description I know. Perhaps ’stronger’ or ‘louder’ is a better description?

Having a couple purpose built II's I would describe the difference as just being "different" not necessarily better than a two pickup Bird with/without the second pup. In my situation I would say "Horses for Courses" would apply, each has their place for me depending on our set list and if I know the stage and room characteristics of the venue.
More later....

IIRC in my initial experiments with the single pickup configuration there was a little more 'throat' when the second pickup was removed entirely from the circuit. That and the fact I couldn't find any combination of the two pickups which did not sound (to my ears) in some way 'lacking' compared to the single pickup, cemented my liking/obssession/need for single pickup basses.

[UPDATE] Obviously this is all largely subjective.

yeah too bad about that 17 (Nine-0-Nine) that just ate it in Connecticut...saw that bad boy at the Boeing museum in Sea last...:rollno:

Really sad, they lost some people in the crash, I've walked aboard the 909 twice - Flying in those planes must have taken some Major Brass.

A few pictures of the new Vintage Pro. I did a quarter turn on the truss rod and lowered the bridge, it plays lightning fast. I probably can drop the bridge a wee bit more. The bass was sold as a demo, still looking for the scratches in the description lol.
The bass is very similar to my first two in build quality and sound. The fret dressing is top notch not a buzz or dead note to be found. I love the fingerboard it has some stunning grain figure at the 18th/19th fret, pretty sure it is Pao Fero not rosewood as listed in the specs. Whatever it is I like it much more than the dark stained boards on my other two. I removed the added spacer the bridge pickup, it put the pickup way to close the strings and in general just gets in my way, I have done this on my other two as well. The serial number is laser etched into the wood, nice touch I like it. The pickups sound just great, no change there. Epiphone has kept the quality up over the past two years I am happy to say, now if we can get some custom colors and a II. P.S. I'd pay a premium for real mother of pearl dots.

A tragedy, such loss of life. A reminder that warbirds are inherently dangerous.

Nice! MOP dots wouldn’t be very difficult to install. Just drill out the plastic ones with a Brad point bit. The trick would be getting the depth right so you don’t have to trim down the new dots a lot.

G’day Kat,
I’m thinking a switch would do that in a less obvious fashion than a pickupectomy.

I think that is the consensus.

(Just thinking about mucking around with the Goth “one day”)

Back in 2015 or 2016 I wanted to go up in a Spitfire at a local air show but unfortunately it's a one seater...

Don't know where you were at 8:41 but we just had a pretty dramatic tremor here in Pacifica. 3.6, epicenter 6 miles from me in Colma "City of the Dead". (yes, it shook the dead) Colma is called that because of huge acreage of land dedicated to cemeteries. Haven't felt a quake in quite a while and they are usually more of a 'nudge' - this was a dramatic rattler. (luckily short and not followed by more) Life in CA.
Having grown up in Alaska I totally understand those tremors, I never ever got used to them. Even the "small" 4's that shook me awake in the morning put a nervous scare in me I could never shake even to this day. I can't even imagine the one in 1964 shortly before I was born, registered at 9.2.
