Following up from my prior post.
First impressions and comparison of the Gator P-G 2X to the Mono M80 Dual:
- Gator is long enough for my 2018 Gibson TBird without any stress on the headstock. Yay!
-More storage space than the Mono M80 Dual.
-Totally removable shoulder straps via metal carabiners as opposed to the Mono, on which the straps are sewn at the top, with plastic clasps at the bottom.
-Gator has a lift handle on the front of the bag. Mono has a lift handle on the back, above the shoulder straps, and none on the front.
-Both have a well padded carry handle on the side.
-Gator exterior fabric appears more coarse, possibly more durable, but too soon to tell.
-Main Zippers on the Gator feel less smooth, although they appear to be the same size as the Mono. Could be that the Mono is just well worn. But the teeth appear to be identically sized, as are the pulls.
-Both use some sort of micro fleece on the interior.
-Padding thickness around the perimeter of both bags appears identical, however, the Gator has a removable two inch wide bumper on the bottom. Removing this allowed for the TBird to fit.
-Gator has both bass compartments opening from the left side, on the side of the carry handle. Mono has the top bass compartment opening on the left, bottom opening on the right. Gator stores both basses facing outward, back to back. Mono has both basses facing the front of the bag, so it’s back to front. I don’t know how I feel about that yet. When the Gator case lays on the floor, lying on its back, the bottom bass is face down. It seems more logical to have the bass resting on its back, but perhaps it’s an advantage to be able to remove both basses from the same side, with the case resting with its right side down. Time will tell.
-The Gator appears more “boxy”. The Mono is “rounder”, and in my opinion, more stylish having a contrasting color around the front storage compartment.
As of my first impression, the Gator is superior, and cost me $220. The Mono currently sells for $330.
Both bags shown below, each containing two basses. Gator also has all my spare cables, extra strings, tools, DeOxit, and assorted gig stuff.
