Thunderbird Club

Thank you, all...I was not the biggest fan of southern rock. More of a Cure/NIN fan, LOL. I have a whole new respect for their musicianship and then I learned that even though plenty of southern rock fans have political/societal views I disagree with... the band itself were relatively progressive thinkers. It's funny but when I joined my first band as a piano guy, the leader said..oh no, I am not gonna pay you to play on just 7 songs...you are gonna learn to play bass. Thank you Dennis wherever you are.
Skynyrd confused a lot of people. It’s easy for a lot of the country to dismiss the South as nothing but ignorant rednecks. That’s how the news, movies, etc. have portrayed it for years. Through such a lens, it’s then easy to take the lyrics literally to key songs, and it’s all over. But there’s a lot more depth- and occasionally subtlety- than many realize.

I was a huge fan and they occasionally confused me! Why the heck “Gimme Back My Bullets” after a sincere song against Saturday night specials (deeper than that but enough for now)? Eventually I found it was about Billboard hit song bullets, and it all made sense. But literals fans missed that and even started throwing bullets on stage. Lots of fans got it, but lots didn’t. Meanwhile, Leon held down the low end, oft on a mighty THUNDERBIRD.

dig his tone on Gimme Back...sounds like a Bird bridge pickup..

It's Alive !!! Almost a NBD. With her head glued on tight and all strung up, intonated and tuned up including some truss rod tweaks as she settles in....
Observations:
(1) I forgot the saddles are numbered (4=E). It's been a long time since I took a whole bridge off.
(2) When she popped she blew the tape wounds right off two of the strings, LOL. Gonna order a new set.
(3) I kinda forgot she has M. Lull Pups, so nice, so big.
(4) Shot of Johnny Walker Black with my pancakes?

Nice!
One of the positives of bad memory is the pleasant surprises.

I only started listening to Skynyrd about 10 years ago. It was a pleasant surprise to find The Ballad of Curtis Loewe and Saturday Night Special.

Used my Classic Pro to record the bassline to our latest song. It records INCREDIBLY well, direct into a Tascam digital recorder. I played the line with a light touch, neck pickup only, and it has this wonderfully smooth, lush, full, "pillowly" sound that none of my other basses could have achieved. PERFECT for the song. I just wish I wasn't so technology-challenged, so that I could post it here! :hyper:

Love stick and tissue! Did this for a group build in the Guillows FB page, I missed the flight deadline due to weather. I'm going to detail it up and retire it.
