Thunderbird Club

Hello my name is Klondike and I am an enabler:

Not involved, but just in case one of you ate temptable
http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/391381475858

I wouldn't pay that much if there's all those problems to begin with (worn frets, busted case, why sand a headstock down?). + i've already built my own, that does actually feel better than the original :D So i'm good xD

they do play and sound great, though. A friend of mine has a Ripper, all maple, bolt on. Not sure what those pups are?, single coil or hum bucker, but the little I've played on it, seems like a pretty great bass.... not too heavy.

Bolt on ripper? Ibanez copy?

We can get a bit chatty and I feel this may have gotten passed over, were I doing this I'd follow the conventional wisdom 8K in the neck, 9K bridge, it'll be easier to eq, esp. if you use some other basses.

Thanks. For now, they're wired up the other way (8k bridge, 9k neck) and I'm really liking it. I've always just barely had the bridge pickup on before, so the balance seems to make sense. We'll see what happens at rehearsal tomorrow. If it's not working I can switch them.

My initial impression is highly favorable. These pickups are MUCH closer to the sound I had in my head when I bought this bass. I don't have a vintage Thunderbird around to compare but I'll take godofthunder59's word for it that these are close. The modern sound is cool too, but this is what I've been looking for.

"Bolt on ripper? Ibanez copy?"

IIRC..... but there's a good chance that I don't......:eyebrow:

This one's a Gibby..... Normally set neck?

Rippers are set necks yes, grabbers & g3s are bolt ons. Just you said you played a ripper, bolt on neck. So i assumed a copy of a ripper that sounded good :D

Did it look something like this?

I also had this question and got over looked, But this answer's what I'm going to do and order a set tomorrow when he comes back.

Seems like these Chinese pick ups are pretty good eh? Whomever has them, how do they compare or better, contrast to Gibson TB+?

I'm still in the evaluation phase with mine. What I hear at home is that there's a mid bump at a higher frequency than the TB+. There's more high end clarity (sparkle?) too. I'm hearing less ultra low end response. They want to distort SO bad (which is what I go for).

I suspect that they're really going to cut through with the band, but I'll see for sure tomorrow.

Killing two birds with one stone today! Thunderbird neck is almost all done having the frets glued in just 3 left. Then comes the time consuming impatient boredom of filling each & every fret ends, once the frets are done, it's painting the fretboard edges & Monday i'll be painting the whole sucker up!

Expect pictures! (I keep saying, but not much taken :/ )

Wonder what the other bird killed today? My Batman armour costume! I'm getting die hard ready for the new Dawn of Justice movie that's out on march 25th 2016, I honestly can't wait!!!!!

They made fewer than 140 of the whites in 77-78, they've really yellowed over the years. I've owned two of them, bought the first one sold in Hollywood CA in '77. Traded it five years later for a '77 Sting Ray I still have. Bought the current one from the original owner about 5 years ago.

IMO Bicentennials are inferior to original 60s Reverses. If you own both you know why.

A few of the reasons: lighter, better balanced, pickups, more refined body woodworking.

I think I'm all caught up:
  • Carlo, damn you dangling those tasty vintages out there
  • I use Brain 1.30mm (dark blue) nylon picks with the awesome grip on them
  • No, let's not bring back the Gibson white finish! Keep the value of the existing ones high (I overpaid for mine)
  • I'm a "meh" on the Schecters and Sandbergs
  • Great work by your tech getting the 3 point that low! My white bird's is super low, too
  • Have you guys seen the Kauer Guitars "Banshee"? I want them to make a bass version, but I don't think they are interested in basses [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
