  • Have you guys seen the Kauer Guitars "Banshee"? I want them to make a bass version, but I don't think they are interested in basses [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Those look a lot like what Scott Holliday of Rival Sons plays.

Edit: turns out, that's because those are the guitars he uses.

Not really Bird related, but this thing drives me crazy - kinda:

BL and me were looking at Les Pauls and we found this:

Why would someone put a damn 4.000€ Les Paul in a tree? I'd like to know how the finish on the back looks and if it was mine I'd be afraid of it falling down.

btw: This is the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen and I don't even like gold hardware. Maybe I'm attracted to shiny red things. :D -1600€ less than the Tree Paul.

The new SR-71 Blackbird Stealth

Just bought this with no identifiable markings, no inlays except 12th fret and the reflective pick guard and truss rod cover blacked out to absorb radar. I love this thing.

OK, I just painted the pick guard and truss rod cover. I like the late models with the dark fingerboard.
Never had a thunderbird before. Now I want another one. Perhaps a white or a vintage sunburst, neck thru active.
Let the bace begin.

Great work by your tech getting the 3 point that low! My white bird's is super low, too

Funny thing, when Dave was just getting into building guitars (he ran a successful cabinet shop) he actually made several Thunderbirds and they were beautiful. He would have made me a lefty but I didn't have the $$ at the time (and it would have been for a ridiculously reasonable price!) :crying: :crying:

Nah... Not a fan of Rabbers and Grippers - Way too big booteys... ;)

I wouldnt mind a Grappler. :)

My first bass was a Japanese bass around 1977 of a brand that i cannot remember for the life of me...
Anyway I remember I liked it because it a Gibson-esque headstock and I for no known reason preferred Gibson (or the look at least). From memory.. it was like a SG, but the 'horns' were more rounded, Ripper style - but I think more even in height (but I could be mistaken on that) and it didnot have a big (any?) pickguard. It was in natural, a light clear with the grain showing; looking like an Ash. I still love the natural look. I rememberr thinking Gene Simmons bass was a little like it.

Anyway, I'd like an SG/Ripper style copy with no pickguard thanks, oh in natural. :D

Frets!

Waiting til sunday to do the bulk of the fret work (since i won't have time Friday or saturday - band rehearsals for our upcoming gig). So if sunday i'm done with everything i gotta do, then monday it sees fresh coats of satin black! Can't wait, i'm actually meeting my own set deadlines for my projects. Quite pleased with my outcome since i've been going through some february blues - & no not valentine's day :P

Yes it does. I played a 1800 dollar 7ender and the setup was so bad it literally couldn't be played. And I formed opinions. I'm trying to read up on the PLEK process because it works. Good job for Gibson USA though.
I experienced the same thing - a ~$2k Gibson was unplayable, an Epiphone at a fraction of the cost in the same shop played nicely. They offered to set up the Gibson while I waited, but I didn't trust the guy who offered to do it to do it right, the moment was lost, and it was at a shop I never really liked anyway.

Awesome Bird! That is EXACTLY what I've been looking for!!!
So do tell - I understand you painted the guard and truss cover but was the body and headstock that color when you bought it? What did you use for paint (Flat? or Satin?).
I need a project bass and wanted to do a total stealth, defretted with walnut fret lines installed and La Bella black tape wounds.

That pretty much describes one of my future projects, except for the hardware which will be chromed out...

Have all the parts - just need the time to get it done...
