Thunderbird Club

The new SR-71 Blackbird Stealth

Just bought this with no identifiable markings, no inlays except 12th fret and the reflective pick guard and truss rod cover blacked out to absorb radar. I love this thing.

OK, I just painted the pick guard and truss rod cover. I like the late models with the dark fingerboard.
Never had a thunderbird before. Now I want another one. Perhaps a white or a vintage sunburst, neck thru active.
Let the bace begin.

Very nice, shall I add you to the club?

Or perhaps one like this...

or the real thing...

These are along the lines of my favorite classic shapes, and the 2+2 headstock. Alembic's Stanley Clarke model is in there also. The whole SG reference is my original bass soul-mate...

The T-Bird was unexpected, like waking up knowing something new about yourself...

Technically my second bass, but i've had it since i was 9-10 years old. Traded my squier affinity pbass for this Ibanez GaxB short scale bass (currently at my friends place cause i'm lacking storage with all my projects) & also going under repair for electronics :p

The only bass i've kept stock (minus needing a new 3 way switch - which acts as a tone control) Also doesn't have the treble side skull sticker at the neck anymore.

My thunderbird goth is my 4th bass owned in life, but 3rd that stayed in the household amongst the others. only 16 more days til it's played again!

There's just something about Scooby Doo bed sheets and Anarchy/Skull stickers that has me confused. ;)

Awesome Bird! That is EXACTLY what I've been looking for!!!
So do tell - I understand you painted the guard and truss cover but was the body and headstock that color when you bought it? What did you use for paint (Flat? or Satin?).
I need a project bass and wanted to do a total stealth, defretted with walnut fret lines installed and La Bella black tape wounds.

It's a new factory bird. I only painted the pickguard and truss rod cover with flat black that had primer in it to get rid of the reflective shiny parts. I did 4 coats. The flat black looks almost gray next to the "pitch black" factory paint which is also a matte (flat) black but a lot blacker. I wouldn't have done anything if it came with the same paint as the pick up covers have for the pickguard and truss rod cover.
