Thunderbird Club

Was on my way down a YouTube rabbit hole and stumbled upon this guy...

I like it! Kinda shades of Jimi Hendrix mixed in with Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

And for some real earth shaking fun, pull out your most ruckus baddest bird, crank the volume and grind along with this one...

yes, he is very good. I saw him a couple of years ago at the Opera House. Enjoyed it.

The eBay seller responded about the black pickguard with the gold logo. He has 10 in stock (I bought one, so nine left). Here's the eBay listing number...

PS - @Border and @MCF , somehow you two got dropped off the multi quote I just posted, so here's your heads up on the pickguard.
Nice. Is the Thunderbird logo on the stock pickguard also silkscreened?

Nikki plays very much over the bridge pickup, he's stated it several times. If you look at his signature Thunderbirds, they include a small "stand" that Nikki has been putting on his basses for decades. He uses it to prop his picking hand over the bridge, he basically rests the lower portion of his palm on that stand, so it's not difficult to "see" where he plays -

That N.S. bass in your picture was mine.

Seeing pics of Nikki I remember thinking his right hand playing position was a bit odd, then I saw pics of me playing - my right hand is in almost the same place.

Yep - I also play over the bridge pu and rest my palm in front of the bridge for muting. Not a very sharp pic, but you get the general idea...

Stumbled accidentally into the bass tone that’s been in my head for my current band (rock‘n’ roll w/ a punk edge) the other day while on holiday...
2019 Gibson Thunderbird, TI jazz flat strings, Fender Rumble 200v3 amp w/ all EQ set flat, “vintage” voicing. Wow. This thing growls! My cheapest (and lightest weight) amp sounds better than my expensive Phil Jones rig? Hmmm...

They are making some very nice sounding affordable combo amps these days. Sure beats lugging big heavy equipment!

That’s were I got mine...be patient as it will take weeks to get, and the shipping info will be very vague. Good quality and the holes match up perfectly on my 2019 Gibby T-Bird

I grow my middle nail out a bit for the clawhammer banjo. Then I get excited and dig in on bass and tear it up. Ride these two all night and 'em put away wet....ahhh they clean up nice... Gonna put some electrical tape on that baby bird before it has a hole in it. Look how teeny-tiny and handy it is. Like carrying a guitar around. Zebrabird needs some new strings badly as the tapewounds blew off on two of them when the neck snapped. Being retired... I now resolved to net a profit from music for a change so when the world is running down I'm gonna make the best of what's still around...

Yeah. My order says delivery by February 12th. It’ll be a total surprise when it arrives because I’m sure I’ll forget ordering it.

I believe the stock Gibby pickguards have an engraved logo not a silk screened one.

Depending upon how they did the silkscreen it might or might not be as durable as the stock logo. If they did a couple of clear coats over the pickguard after applying the logo it should be fairly durable. If not it'll be less durable. I won't know until Feb when mine arrives, but for $40 I'm not too worried about it.

The one that came on the ‘15 is engraved. The TR cover is screened. The plastic on it it way thinner and cheaper looking than the TR covers on my three EPIs. The TR cover on the PB Epi is three ply as is it’s PG.

Was gonna post a NBD thread, but I really have nothing to add to the praises of these Epi vintage pro basses, soooooo:

I actually will say that as far as basses in my price range go that I have experienced this far, this may be the most high quality one yet. Fit and finish is amazing . The sound is thunderous. Happy holidays!

I love my VP

Vincent, I'm happy to add you to the club if you'd like. :)
