Thunderbird Club

I like that Gibson strap, I have the one like this...

“Hate” is not a strong enough word to describe it... most expensive worthless music related purchase I ever made.

I think I saw one like that in a shop earlier today. Does it have an elastic or neoprene section ?

Was on my way down a YouTube rabbit hole and stumbled upon this guy...

I like it! Kinda shades of Jimi Hendrix mixed in with Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

And for some real earth shaking fun, pull out your most ruckus baddest bird, crank the volume and grind along with this one...

Great description of Clark. He's been on some of Clapton's Crossroads. No flash--just plays like he feels it.

Seeing pics of Nikki I remember thinking his right hand playing position was a bit odd, then I saw pics of me playing - my right hand is in almost the same place.

As is mine. I have some time to work on this, I'll be rejoining the band mid-January, after a 10 month health-related absence, with a gig at the end of January.

Looking at a few Nikki pics, some looking fairly recent show him playing a Gibson. Thought he was exclusively playing Schecters live.

I play between the neck pickup and the neck edge of the fretboard, same as I do with most other basses.
Ditto.
I play finger style (no pic skills developed to date) and I like the smoother fuller sound up towards the neck. When I need to really dig in and want the attack to be very present I move between the two pups and go at it. But I'm almost never over the top of the bridge pup. Might be a different story if I were skilled with a pic.

One each 64 Reverse II and 66 Non-reverse II not in sunburst.

...you can’t always get what you want...

.....would like a 64 Rev IV in frost blue, a 66 NR II in sherwood green and a 76 in black....

Maybe all three of us.

Definitely worth asking if they will make one.

Now I’m wondering about black pg with gold logo... hmmm?

The eBay seller responded about the black pickguard with the gold logo. He has 10 in stock (I bought one, so nine left). Here's the eBay listing number...

PS - @Border and @MCF , somehow you two got dropped off the multi quote I just posted, so here's your heads up on the pickguard.

Thanks for that @GBassNorth. I ordered one as well. Looks like it will be some weeks before it arrives.

...Now I looked at videos featuring Martin Turner, Nikki Sixx and @TBird1958 videos (in our Queen's case, the Sanctuary, Hungry like the wolf and I want you to want me vids) and notice that most of the time, they play between pick-ups of course, but closer or just over the bridge pick-up. I'm guessing that's where most players are comfortable ?
Nikki plays very much over the bridge pickup, he's stated it several times. If you look at his signature Thunderbirds, they include a small "stand" that Nikki has been putting on his basses for decades. He uses it to prop his picking hand over the bridge, he basically rests the lower portion of his palm on that stand, so it's not difficult to "see" where he plays -

Yup, the Opti-grab handle, I believe its called. Initially, I thought it was a gimmick added to help grab the instrument out of the case :-)

I noticed that the PU spacing seems different on the NR than the reverse. Don't know if I ever noticed that before. The NR seems more like my '64 Embassy where the bridge PU is a little farther away from the bridge, thus closer to the neck PU.

Thanks much GBassNorth, I just hopped on Ebay and ordered one. I appreciate the heads up. Now...do I put it on the 4 or 5 string bird?....
