View attachment 3664053 Lord help me, but I’m going to attempt a somewhat serious question. I got this new (to me) Fano bass with Dennis Fano designed T-Bird style pickups. The bass is awesome, btw. Plays great and all. I normally set my neck pickup higher than the bridge pickup, but on the Fano it’s the other way around. Neck pickup is quite low and doesn’t change by just loosening the screws. I’m going to try raising it up at some point, but for now I will say it’s super growly in a pretty neat way. Probably too growly for the gig I’m on tonight, but that’s what I brought. Anyone here set their bridge pickup higher than the neck pickup? Just curious how y’all prefer your setup. I don’t think there’s a ‘best’ way, just as I don’t think there’s a ‘best’ string, amp or whatever. Just curious what others like and why

When you have it dialed and played it a bit, I'd be interested in a review. Judging by the number of clones since the Jazzmaster and Jaguar first came out in '58/'62 respectively it has to be one of the more copied body shapes out there. (and for good reason) Have seen Fano's (in GC) but never played one.

My '89, bridge pickup is raised quite a bit - I am a heathen in that I like them, and note the center screw on that glorious piece of Gibson engineering, it's lower that the outboard ones, I'm going to burn in hell.

Getting myself in a suitably sepulchral frame of mind. One of the things nagging at me before the singer threw a tantrum and stomped out was the songs were becoming a bit 'poppy' for my liking. That has to stop. Need to harden up. You can't melt faces going 'oooooh ooh ooh ooh oooooh'.

I have a 12" of theirs with a cover of Knocking On Heaven's Door. It's interesting.

I was on a Sisters Of Mercy tribute disc in a previous life. We covered Marianne and took a 5 minute song to 8 minutes. I was not in favor of extending the song but was outvoted.

Fano makes really great guitars. Until now, the few of their basses I’ve tried looked amazing, but the necks were a bit odd. This one plays really nice. I’d like to raise the neck pickup, but it sounded great tonight. Nice and growly
