Thunderbird Club

It is TT again. I built a funky warmoth 7-bird many years ago; blurry pic yeah. What a slab. I think I sold it tohelp fund a 2nd '76. I was in a sort of a funk band (ashes to ashes, brickhouse, higher ground sort of stuff) for a short time and it did it's job. I probably couldn't play any of that now, LOL.

When I first started looking at a second bird, I wanted to build one. Neither Warmoth nor anyone else I could find was selling Tbird bodies (much less necks). I don't have the machinery, patience, or skills (or time to gain them) to DIM.

Yeah, kinda weird, but Gibson/lawyers can't say it's a copy.;)
They can say a lot of things. Whether it will hold up is another. And, where Ashdown will tell them to put it is yet another.
All presumes that Ashdown have not already dealt with Gibson. A detail not yet in evidence.

My friend has an orange AMC like the one that flips over the missing bridge! It's in rough shape but he mentioned this Bond movie when he first talked about it with me.
That was a Hornet. There was a stunt team back then that used Javelins, Hornets and Gremlins to do the "Astro Spiral" jump.

If an acrylic TBird is something you need in your life, start here and replace parts as necessary. I'm thinking everything will need to be swapped out but YMMV.
This one's a little more expensive, but you don't have to buy two. It looks a little nicer in the pictures. Photos on the internet never lie, do they?
[Hot Item] Pango Music Acrylic Body 5 Strings Electric Bass Guitar (PAG-034)

That one is a fiver, but they would probably make a four string. For the price, it might be OK. It might not.

Very interesting - unless you knew this one would wonder why a Javelin was used.
Given enough modification and parts removal, a Matador from that era could look pretty good. I'm not sure you could make it driveable without putting the body onto a different frame. But I'm shallow, so looks matter a lot.

Yeah, they were pretty popular back in the day. Kinda like jumping orange Dodge Chargers over everything too. Killed a lot of really cool cars.

I have a buddy who has one that looks a lot like this, full cage, massive rear tires, 401 with a tunnel ram and dual carbs, parachute hanging off the back -

Maybe not as "cool looking" but man that thing is fast on a drag strip! At the local diner, it pretty much just sits there looking different, which appeals to me.

Did the American Motor Corp had a contact with the Bond movie studio; trying to make their cars cool?
In 1974 when the movie was made there weren't many cool American cars left. Most were bloated body under powered boats compared to offerings from just a few years earlier. Mopar probably had the most extensive lineup of hot cars at the time, but I suspect AMC was able to strike a better deal with the producers to have its cars in the movie.

Thanks! I haven’t gotten to play but 3-4 times in over a month. I practiced for close to an hour with it and realized new Rotosounds are cheese graters! I did almost no sliding and my index finger is still spitting and hissing at me. But otherwise it felt great and sounded great, too.
The Rotos will chew up your frets as well. But I never let that stop me:D
