The good life, lots of boring, to me, dramas and recently a documentary series on quaint English villages.

It is mixed around here. Some clubs have found a niche in providing live music. They don't view us as necessary evils. Festivals are my favorite gigs. Except for one time when they cranked up a car show with a DJ behind the main stage. The DJ speaker stacks pointed at the back of the stage so I was hearing really crappy mp3's mixed with my monitors along with the back bass rumble from the mains.

Some real fine planning there.

Theory is there to explain why things sound good. Not as a means of making things sound good.

I am reminded of the old joke about the economist - "Oh sure it works in practice, but how is the theory?"

I like to involve the mechanics of a thing, at least to provide a crisper line between what you "hear" and what other people hear.
Who was it who said "If it sounds good, it is good."?

Technically, he can sue, but truth is an absolute defence.

Unlike the US system, in Canada typically the loser is ordered to pay the winner's costs (removes the pyrrhic victory problem) so it could be costly to bring such a suit.

Sounds like a better way. 'Course it leaves less work for the glut of legal eagles graduating every year.

Some real fine planning there.

One year I attended the big St Patty's day party in Savannah at the riverfront. The had multiple stages situated such that almost everywhere you went (except right near a stage); you could hear at least two bands at once. One time at a festival the wind was such that thick smoke from a bonfire funneled right through the stage. Ever have a green light in your face all night? Yes...planning is generally lacking and shows often end up hinging on chance and the rule is to make the best of it !

None of the venues here provide anything-including PA.

When I was in my high school combo (late '60s), we had our own PA as was expected of bands then. Most all venues here have some level of PA, some better than others but workable as long as you don't get too loud.

When I was in my high school combo (late '60s), we had our own PA as was expected of bands then. Most all venues here have some level of PA, some better than others but workable as long as you don't get too loud.

We've yet to play in a place that had a PA other than for Muzak or announcements like "will the owner of the green Subaru wagon please....."

I'm always a bit of a theory geek. I always want to know the "why" before I "do". That is why I read a book on music theory before deciding to play.
