Thunderbird Club

totally agree, not knocking flats at all....love their sound and have a set on my P...unfortunately it’s my least played bass (use it with only one band) because it’s limited for what I do. as I like to play out as much as I can, tone versatility becomes key..

For sure - mostly reachin' out to those who haven't used them - a whole world of bass tone out there! :bassist:

Well, I am officially retired TODAY as of 11:30 AM. Now I have the time to write more songs, play more bass, get decent on guitar, go to the gym 3 times a week, learn Spanish, then Italian, see more of the kids and girlfriend, and still have some leftover time to drool over the Thunderbirds posted here! :smug:
Congrats!!! Enjoy.

Congratulations!

Retirement isn't the end, it is the beginning; you have achieved enough financial stability to do the work that you enjoy/want to do.

For me, the joy of entrepreneurship is that I will never retire. Just change the amount of what I do. So I may not get to actually name a retirement date.
Thank you kind sir! Financial stability? What is that exactly?

Couldn't even finish the last day huh? :roflmao:  :roflmao:

Seriously though -
Huge congrats man! The way I see it, with the way the retirement age and rules keep changing, I'm working 'till I'm dead. I saw a meme a while back that said "I have enough money to retire today and live comfortably for the next 12 hours." Sadly, rings far too true.
Thank you kindly. I was fortunate enough to work for a local county government and have a NYS pension and free healthcare for life. I am one of the lucky ones. I am a rare bird these days - I know!

:hyper:Congrats on the retirement!

I loved my job, but retirement was the best career move I ever made. Instant stress reduction that probably added years to my life. Retirement has drastically increased the quality of my lifestyle and relationships with family, friends and loved ones, and has restored a proper balance of physical, mental and emotional focus.

Word to the wise - Be sure to initially allow yourself some unwind time to relax a bit, then set some challenging goals for yourself that will keep you mentally and physically fit. But most of all, enjoy your new life, you worked hard for it!

Good catch. I hadn't noticed, but I'll keep a close eye on on the frets now to see if there's any problem. What brand of nickel rounds and flats do you use? I've found EB Cobalt Rounds to be VERY agressive on other basses, haven't tried them on my VP though. No problem with Cobalt flats.
Thank you so very much and, yes, I will follow your sage advice!

sorry about your thumb:rollno:...say, is there a sponsorship needed to join the GOF club? sounds like a fun time!
Nope. Not even a minimum age that I know of. Just an ability or tendency to 'grump' about the way things have changed and the accruing of various ailments. Oh. And bitc...,er, griping about kids on yer lawn.

That's why one needs (yes, needs) at least one (bass) with each type. And I'm sure there are hollow body basses that sound good with rounds - but with flats ... heaven.
I did use rounds many mango seasons ago when I was playing 6 nights a week. Then I found 1/2 rounds, which I liked-for awhile. In mid 84 I got outta full time playing for full time 18 wheeler driving and some weekend playing. Lost all the calluses over time and when I tried a set of rounds again, they felt like crap, hurt my fingers, and were too 'klanky' for the stuff I was playing(rumbas, cha-chas, merengues, foxtrots, etc.) for people older than I am now. The THUNDERBIRD was put away in favor of my 66 Gibson EB-3*-with tapes-on mudbucker to sound as 'UB-y' as possible. I would continue to play the NR in the Tuesday night rehearsal big band and for myself, but the EB-3 was my main bass for a few years 'til I 'hung it up' from shiftin' gears.
My Ibanez semi-hollow body has D'Addario tapewounds on it. I've had a lotta compliments on its tone. And even more on the tone of the THUNDERBIRD. People have the "hard rock and metal only" misconception about it. Surprise!

*which I stupidly sold:banghead:
