Thunderbird Club

Sorry, but the rest of the world finds it a little aggressive when we walk into a shop and the staff are all over us.
An appliance, etc. chain opened a new store near me. I went in to check it out. A salesman came up to me about 10' inside the door. Him:"can I help you?"; me: "first time here, seeing what you've got". he walks away. 10' later, 'nother salesman:"can I help you?"; me: pivot, walk out door, never to return.
P.S.:chain outta bizness.

What I can’t stand is the recent use of the word “boss” by sales people. Seems like it started three or four years ago and it’s become the common greeting. There is only one boss in my world (well, maybe two if you count my wife) and his name is Bruce.
Yeah, but better than "whadda you want, ya olde phart?"

...Just for laughs, I looked up the Jack Casady hardshell case and the asking price in Australia is

$AUD350!

That's utterly astounding.

$350 for HSC + $200 for Hipshot bridge = $550 ... so the actual bass cost me $150 + $2.52 train fare.

How do Australians buy anything with prices like that? You could buy from L&M, pay for shipping and still be ahead.
Yorkville Sound - Yorkville Jack Casady Bass Case

Also, you can't add the train ticket to the value of the bass - logistics does not add value.

I think @PillO knows his way around pharmaceuticals, but good point. Many folks get really messed up starting with prescription pain meds.
Yeah, I know a thing or two... ;) I would make further comments but it gets technical very quickly and politics follows.

The opiates are ok, but on the 'fun' index, the iv benzodiazepines they give you immediately ahead of anesthesia are better. Or at least the brief portion that I can recall..

I needed another strap like I need a hole in my head, especially since I love my black leather strap from Bear Straps...but I ran across an article that said that Dave Grohl uses the Dunlop D3809BK strap with his 335 guitar. So, being the huge Foo Fighters fan that I am, I ordered one on Amazon for a whopping $8.38.
I think I have a new favorite...
Super comfortable, the Comfort Edge webbing is amazing (like ribbing on the edges)...just the right amount of grip...I can let go of my Gibson T-Bird and she hangs perfectly balanced, but I can move / dance around on stage and it never grabs my shirt. I like to wear my bird low, and this goes to 65". I put it on my super heavy RD (12 lbs), and it was perfectly comfortable...but I like it best on my T-Bird.
(If you need longer, the DD4009BK goes up to 70" for a cheap $16.04)
Here's the writeup on Amazon:
The D38 series features easy adjustment custom-designed buckles, patented Comfort Edge webbing, extra-long strap lengths, 100% leather ends, and bold, original jacquard woven and poly-woven designs. The 2" width and Comfort Edge design combine to provide superior comfort even with heavier guitars and basses. Adjustable from 38"-65" insures that your guitar or bass can rest exactly where you want it.

So what's your biggest bass regret story? I don't really have one. Partly because...

Fifteen to twenty years ago, when my kids were teenagers and money was tight, I ran across a good-condition, early model Firebird VII with no hardware. They wanted eight hundred something dollars. That guitar was my grail at the time, but there was no way I could afford to buy it and fix it up then. I went back a couple of days later to put it on layaway, figuring I would sell stuff to buy it. Of course, it was gone. Which is why...

When the open box white VP I wanted so badly got yanked out from under me. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the burst DWLang was selling. Maybe I'd have soon found a white VP at a similar price, but maybe not, and certainly not with case. And you know what? When I pull it out to play it, I don't once think about it not being white. No regrets this time.

I know, the bass in question isn't vintage. But it's Vintage!
Great perspective. As I've said before, I love my white VP. But the burst is so great looking with the beautiful wood. In that no pain will ever look as good as decent wood grain. The white might be more stunning in some ways, but the burst is not lacking anything in looks or tone. If I could only keep one, it would likely be the burst, though I wanted white.

My regret woulds be trading an mid 60s Jazz. Don't recall what for at this point. Possibly the '64 Thunderbird or the '55 Pbass. If so, it worked out well.

They’re actually polite about it if you tell them you would rather not receive calls like that. Apparently some people strike up chatty friendships with “their” sales person. The guy assigned to me is a bass player, nice enough and leaves me alone unless I reach out about something.
Same here (bass player and all). No problems for me. Couldn't be happier with my guy.
