Thunderbird Club

I went a 5 Seconds of Summer Show with my daughter about 3 years ago. At the end, the guitarist leaned his LPJ against his Marshall and walked away letting it howl. IMO that’s one of the most irritating things a guitarist can do.
I’m surprised they are still out there doing big shows.

Artistic comment?

the 25 yo and unders seem to love them. They got a good reception on the weekend, at least with those within 30 metres of the stage.

It remains to be seen whether they can transition after that wears off.

When I saw them, they seemed like a pre-packaged boy band with guitars, playing pop-punk lite. My daughter has moved on, so I haven’t kept up with what they are doing.

My gear related regrets are:

1: Trading my 1976 Bicentennial ebony Bird for an LP Standard guitar. It was a fluke that I found it and was super lucky to find the ebony finish instead of sunburst.

2: Passing on a 64 Bird for $600 pre-internet. Should have snagged it.

3: Selling my 73 Les Paul Standard in cherry-burst. The same LP that I traded the 76 Bird for.

I think that about covers it.

If I may, what prompted this? I mean, there aren’t many of those around....
Who cares what prompted it! It is causing me GAS pains, but also vicarious relief from those pains. It's great to see that there are '60s Thunderbirds out there in the world, and maybe more than any of us had thought are still around.

I don't really have gear regrets.

...Just for laughs, I looked up the Jack Casady hardshell case and the asking price in Australia is

$AUD350!

That's utterly astounding.

$350 for HSC + $200 for Hipshot bridge = $550 ... so the actual bass cost me $150 + $2.52 train fare.
At least it didn't make the price drop. There was a deal with a bass and amp that was cheaper than the bass itself. Apparently the amp had negative value.

wasn't really asking you but thanks all the same!:roflmao:..

I'm ready to BEADify my Epi IV. Thinking of swapping the nut. What nut material do you like for Thunderbirds?
The Gibby ‘15 has a Tusq nut. The new to me ‘12/13 NR has a Corian nut. Not sure it makes a difference. I used Tusq on my acoustic guitar when I replaced the nut and bridge and think it’s pretty good stuff.

Regrets? For a while I regretted not picking up an absurdly cheap sale Epi EB3L but, as I never could have subsequently justified the JC, it worked out alright in the end. The only bass-related thing I miss is my Diamond compressor.
My(ex)Epi EB3L dove worse than my THUNDERBIRD ever has. Glad I sold it.[did sound good though]

Your post reminded me that I had a (year?)FIREBIRD NR that matched my 67 THUNDERBIRD NR. I bought it because it matched and I thought it'd be cool to have[I don't play guitar]. Traded it for something(amp?). Wish I still had it.:banghead::banghead:
