Thunderbird Club

Have a great show! Where you playing?

I used to make trips to Port Angeles to race the stock car there. Was always fun! Too bad they tore the racetrack down.

We’re at The Metta Room, it’s right in downtown near where you catch the Ferry to Victoria and the Red Lion.

Glorious day here, Vancouver Island is of in the distance

Sweet Firebird! Do you take it to any Pontiac events?
Good evening everyone, Friday night at last!
Yes, I have entered it in a few shows, and it was great fun. I did well at the NW Pontiac roundup, which is a fun show by the river in Post Falls. I took it to Wheel'in Walla Walla days once as well. I grew up there and it was great fun to return for a long weekend. Unfortunately she has not been on the road the last two summers, but I am hoping to get her back together again soon. The car is too much fun to drive. She has a 400 ci engine that I had rebuilt some years ago. I had a speed shop here in Spokane do the work, and let them convince me to put a mild cam in her. She has a bit of a lope at idle, and if I ever have to get in the engine, I will put a milder camshaft in. The car came with a few features for its day, including dual piston disc brakes up front, and a Muncie 4 speed manual transmission. I put a competition clutch, and a Hurst shift kit in her. I plan to swap out the rear gears to get the rpms down and speed up. She leaps off the line at present, but winds at highway speeds. Anyway, don't mean to ramble, but she is great fun to drive. The only real changes were getting rid of the vinyl top, headers, and updated sound system. Still a work in progress. I hope everyone has a great Friday night.
Best wishes for the gigs my queen! Port Angeles is beautiful, have fun.

Caution: No THUNDERBIRD content. 8^O

The band at our monthly concert at work was Truett, out of Atlanta. Absolutely top notch power trio, and great guys, to boot. I went up afterward to talk, and Dustin (bass) Williams must have spent close to ten minutes with me. We talked about music, influences, and bass guitars. When I mentioned how much I liked the sounds and looks of his silverflake Mustang (a Squier Mikey Way model), he handed it to me. "Want to try it?" He then proceeded to hand me his Precision and his other Mustang, to see how I liked them. He runs Labella flats on the Mustangs, and Elixers on the P. Gotta say, they all felt great. Blew my mind. Who does that? Even with them being "only" Squiers; these guys are on tour, and the first thing he handed me was his main axe.

I don't know that he'd do that in a club; this was a private event and nobody was drunk or likely to go crazy. Still cool.
Also, on some of the songs, his hands were two rabid spiders running and jumping all over that Mustang. His RH anchor point was pretty much every square cm of that bass at some point.

Think a really friendly young Jack Bruce (sans Gibson) or John Paul Jones and you've got the idea.

Definitely go see them if you get the chance.

Snuck away early to get home to my new baby. I did the Babicz install The other night and played it as it was without any tweaks. Today I raised the PUPs dialed in string height and actually loosened the TR a bit to get a hint of curve in the neck; it was too straight for the real world of my house. It’s set at .008 now. She’s perfect. The sound is amazing. And intonation on the Babicz was perfectly set out of the package. I ended not having to touch it.

Thanks to the enablers here. And to @GBassNorth for not trading his Stingray for it a few months ago when he was negotiating with the sellers for it. This bird and I were meant to be together. I’m loving it.

That’s funny. It’s very likely Epi knows full well a NR would go over well. The last ones produced were by Gibson in ‘13. I can’t find how many they did, but given that few come up used it likely wasn’t many. I’ve gotta believe it really is going to happen at some point. A VP version is a no brainer.

It’s been a while since I read it, but I seem to remember 200 each of the two finish options? I could be wrong. I love my Pelham Blue NR, but it doesn’t get much play time due to the slightly wider neck and string spacing.

Good to hear! She went to a good home and it sounds like she'll be lovingly cared for. I'd really like to hear your take on how she sounds and feels compared to other Gibson birds. If Eppi doesn't release a NR VP soon I'm gonna hafta move on a 2012 Gibby NR to quench my thirst.

I’ll let you know after the honeymoon. It’s a super nice bass.
