I'd like to believe that the DMs on your JC are old and dead. When new, they were historically compared to RS66.

Well they don't sound like RS66s now. Looking to emphasis the naturally darker and doomier tone palette of the JC. Been thinking Black Beauties would look the part.

The Epiphone screened HSC's that are tapered (not a hard rectangle) and have grey form-fitted interiors (to me) are sufficiently safe to protect the bass and I would fly with one w/o worry. Not sure what other look like or how they are made.

IIRC (from when the guts were removed to make the NR case) the shell is plywood.

Correct. Too few plies of too thin wood.

never been a fan of how semi hollow basses resonate against the body......that said, was really impressed with the quality, workmanship and sound of the JC I tried at NAMM...can't help but wonder how they stack up against these..

I read an article about the genesis of the JCB. Anyone surprised that Gibson wasn’t interested in the project? Anyway one Gibby guy sent JC across the quad to a bloke in Epi. Who was interested.
JC reckons the JCB is better than his LP Sig was. Mind you, he would wouldn’t he?
