Thunderbird Club

When it rains, it pours, we just had a 5.7 earthquake here in Northern Utah, my rambler shook pretty good. My son and brother in SLC (I live 30 miles North) don't have power. I ran downstairs, the T5 and Embassy are good.

Having a gnarly aftershock as I type this.....

This is the problem with 'Birds, always shaking the ground...

In a thread elsewhere entitled "'66 Thunderbuckers vs Chinabuckers Shootout...with clips", the Cataldo guy quoted the Thunderbucker guy giving these numbers for the pickups (and included an explanation if you need it):

Pup R L Q
66N 8.635 3.713 2.095
CBN 8.420 3.031 1.801
66B 9.231 4.371 2.267
CBB 9.382 4.026 2.054

Gee, it would be interesting to have these numbers for the ProBucker 760s. The frequency at which he measured L and Q appears to have been a little under 800Hz.

But I'm posting to tell you that it's easy to hear that the 760s are the above type of pickup (reactive, like a J pickup), and they are decisively unlike the modern Ric Hi-Gain, which have lower inductance and higher resistance (partly because they're wound with thinner wire), and therefore much lower Q, and so are lacking some things I can't live without.

It's the Ric Hi-Gains that drove me toward the TBird world, and I'm telling you that my Embassy Pro satisfies fully in this regard!
It's interesting that you say this - and a little confusing. I thought the pickups in an Embassy Pro were 760s. I know for sure that the pickups in a modern Thunderbird, and in Epi Classic Pro Thunderbirds are something different from 760s. Modern Thunderbird pickups are some wide range of things, depending on what year and what parts bin somebody grabbed parts out of when making them. But they seem to sound very similar anyway.

I'm still convinced there's some strange magic about the 2001 I have. I don't know what the pickups are, but they won't be changing.

So..... I have been pretty busy. When not working I have bee going to my unions training site. I have decided I want to go deeper into the world of cranes and the need of a CDL is very real. I have put it off too long and now I believe the lack of it is hindering my income, so the training site is where I have been. Then the other day(Mon) in the middle of the day an announcement is they are closing for a minimum of thirty(30) days. No work, No training, gotta stay home. I decide to step in here to say hi and guess what, Ya'll got the place under lock down! lol

Fortunately the Thunderbird Club is back! Hello everyone, I'm back :smug:
Good to see you and see you are well. It sucks about the delays, but they are only delays.

Well, I have a trade worked out for an Epi TBird. But we are waiting until things are better to meet and exchange.
You have become one of us! BWAHAHAHAHA!

I guess it's time to get the thumbs out and take a family photo. It won't be Jeff quality, and it will have to wait until the weekend. No gym and no church means more time to do things like take pictures of Thunderbirds and Fenderbirds. The only problem is that there will be evidence of how many there really are. It's harder to be vague when you actually know.

They are. Very "open", as others have said, and lively like a J pickup, for the reasons I said.
So they are high gain like you were looking for? Forgive me for being obtuse - I must have woken up dumb this morning. It happens more often than it should.

Hey gang,
Just stopped by to say I'm glad the thread got re-opened. Not sure how much I'll post moving forward. I feel like I'm largely responsible for the off-topic wandering since I don't play in a band and I tend to ramble about non-music related things quite a bit. So I'll probably just step away from this thread for the most part and just kind of check in every so often. Not getting rid of the 'Bird, so I'll hold on to my membership. Just don't want to contribute to the next closure.

Have a great day, stay safe, and rock on!
Oh, and just so this isn't off-topic in some way.....
