Thunderbird Club

Like most of us, I have a lot of time to kill lately. With that in mind, SW(no affiliation)posted a notice/demo in my email that Tech21 has a new 'Steve Harris' pedal. Nothing I can use, but fairly interesting to get his sound, if that fits what yer doing.
I have an odd fascination with these. It all started with the Geddy preamp that became a pedal that became a preamp/di pedal. Actually, it may have started earlier with their various 'amp in a box' type pedals. The Geddy pedal absolutely cops his sound - probably as a result of the bi-amping it does internally. So, I started listening to the other artist 'amp in a box' type pedals they have. All are interesting and cop the artist's sound. Then the question becomes, is that how you want to sound? I like the Geddy boxes (I suppose I am obliged to by Canadian musical commandment - thou shalt exalt Geddy above all bassists).

The Dug Pinnick pedal doesn't interest me - I like his playing, but I don't want his tone.
Neither the Ritchie Kotzen nor Paul Landers pedals interest me because I don't play guitar.
The Steve Harris pedal is cool. If I saw one used at a good price, I would buy it.

Yeah, but then ya gotta master the 'gallop'.

Lets hear about your first thunderbird experiences !!!

Late 70's a friend let me hold a bicentennial while he was going through some issues. I didn't gig with it for fear of damage but I found it very interesting while noodling. I tried to buy it but he wasn't having it. Early 2000's I paid about 400 bux for a Korean Epi. Beautiful fit and finish. I ended up upgrading the PUPs. I remember auditioning for a Steely Dan tribute band with it and getting some odd looks from the other candidates. I got the call, BTW but decided the ride was farther than I had realized. Finally got a Gibson in 2007 and four more over the years.

It's all our Queens fault. I had no clue about TBirds. Then found this thread.
2 Birds later......

I was in NYC in '70. The guys I was with suggested we go to Manny's(we'd come up from FL to retrieve their gear from a previous tour). There was a guy testing out a 'Bird-which I think he bought-and I asked if I could see it. Now, I was playing a '66 EB-3 in those days so the 'Bird looked BIG but as soon as I got my hands on that neck and ran a few patterns-no amp BTW-I knew I had to have one-someday. That day came +/- 3 years later at a little shop directly across the street from Manny's. I've forgotten the name but @JJR58 knows the place. We've been together ever since in "Good times, bad times"-w/ apologies to LZ.

I saw Leon Wilkeson and the Ox play them at the same concert (Atlanta, 1973). They looked and sounded awesome, but I was already down the guitar player path. Fast forward many years to when I was playing percussion (not your average guitar), and our bass player quit. I went to GC, and there was an Epi THUNDERBIRD on the wall. Fell in love, had to have that bass, not another in a box.
A few years later, bought a Pro V. Did some work to make it playable (came with issues). Found that my left hand and that neck hated each other. Sold it, bought a practically new VP from someone here, happy as a bed of clams. Converting my original IV to BEAD.

66 to 73 Dodges and Plymouth’s are maybe the best cars made in the USA value wise. The 318 is a solid motor. They bored it out for the 383s with 4 barrels. The Hemis are are lengedary. Love Mopar.
I haven't googled it and don't recall for sure, but wasn't the 383 the larger block? I was thinking that the 360 was the last of the 318 size block. But I honestly don't remember. It's been decades since I've even thought about that.

I'm with you on the MOPAR love! That just sounds weird, doesn't it?o_O
