Thunderbird Club

New review video is up! Looking at the Epiphone Thunderbird Pro V 5 string....

... Sorry Tbird friends. Not a fan of this one. That's not to say there won't be other birds in my future (though it'll definitely be a 4 string). Please don't kick me out <3

Mine had no problems with the wood changes on the neck. But... I agree on the neck shape; it was killing my hand. And the more I played it, the worse that got. The preamp wasn't the best, for sure. Besides the neck, my biggest complaint was the lack of low end. The Thunderbird had no thunder, which the rest have in abundance. I wasn't sure if the tonal issues were more preamp or pickups; I was going to try rewiring to have a passive option, but when I couldn't get on with the neck I gave up.
Moving the upper strap pin to where the neck heel would be on a bolt-on or set neck helped with strap dive. A lot.
Mine came with a warped bridge, which was also off center. I plugged the holes, and drilled new ones to fit a Hipshot A-style. Much better.

we are setting up the corporate band for remote practice via JamKazam...really curious with outcome...thinking of buying the Tech 21 DI V2 for the interface. anyone have any experience with this box?
Not me, that's for certain. I don't even use the DI on my Rumbles. Hopelessly analog.

Ummm, I think that's the one I hated ... therefore you'll prolly love it.

I'm right there with you.
Many Chicago songs are on my favorites list these days. And like you, back then, I did what I needed to do to stay in the girls good graces. Well, I did draw the line at disco. Hated it back then, and still dislike it now, and you can throw rap in there as well. But I have come around on Chicago and much of the lighter stuff from the 1970's.
Right There With You As Well!
Although back in the day I pledged my allegiance to the "Disco Demolition Militia" these days I actually find Disco relatively palatable when compared to Rap

I lived in NYC from 1982 to 1987 when hip hop was getting rolling. It was an absolute blast at the time. That was before it became gangsta rap and got formulaic. There was all kinds of amusing stuff going on:

And Herbie Hancock got into it as well:

And then there was the social commentary:

There was a whole lot more going on, and the energy in the air was electric. It was a good time to be in NYC and a bad time to be in NYC, all rolled into one energetic ball.

Honestly, that was really when it was real hip hop. To me anyway.

Yup,
Right on point!!
I like what the "Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys & Faith No More" did with it, at least this stuff can be considered "musical"..

I have a VT Deluxe (banks to save settings). I don't have a need for it with my tube heads, but I still use is as my DI to the board. I would never not have one. If I ever had to play with SS or many other sounding rigs, it would be plugged in in front of said amp. But I like the sound of Ampeg. Does it sound like an SVT? No. Does it do something to the sound to get closer to that big Ampeg sound? Yep.
