The '91 got out to play last night. I'm very happy with the way HongKongBuckers sound on it with EB Cobalt flats. With the neck pickup dimed, the tone and bridge at about 5, it was sounding like a P-Bass crossed with a big-block Chevy V8. It didn't have to be particularly loud to be ground pounding, and it bludgeoned the mix in a way that never let the bass get lost. It sounded fantastic to me, with plenty of mids, enough low, and plenty of harmonics. Maybe the strings are breaking in properly, maybe I'm getting used to the way it sounds and how to get what I want out of it, or who knows, but this thing just keeps getting better.

What is the correct Hipshot Xtender for my Tbird IV? I screwed up and got the WRONG one!

Put a Hipshot GB7 detuner in my '14 Epi Thunderbird Pro IV. I had to file down the tuner hole which I was hesitant to do but it did not take much! I got it from bestbassgear.com. They said this IS the correct extender for the Epi T-bird.

I'm surprised Hipshot was clueless. I called them before placing my order and they(he) was spot on.

Turned out I mismeasured or something happened and I still had to ream out the holes. The clovers work perfectly though, and now that the tuners are installed, I can't say enough good things about them. It does get me wondering whether they make a chrome mini-clover version of the drop-D lever.

I think the reason for needing to ream the holes is that Hipshot measurements are pretty much exact, whereas the holes in the headstock have been known to vary from what they're stated to be. Same thing happened with my Epi TBIV. What the holes were alleged to be was slightly different from what they truly were. I didn't do the reaming so I'm not certain, but I think it was due to finish in the hole. The bushings are pretty much press fit in there now and rock solid. I don't know how much one can love tuning machines, but I'm thrilled with mine.

BTW, my old 94 Korean NR 5 string with P/J's is on sale at GC Northridge Ca for $199. this is less than they gave me .........It has Barts! It will have to wait about 3 weeks for release, but well worth it.

One was the standard iv with the bolt on neck and the other was the classic iv. I tried the classic first and it was nice, it was pretty close to the Gibson I was planning on buying. I then tried the bolt on T-bird. I really liked it but it was dirty and already covered in scratches from people that were trying it. I asked if they had another one in the back I could try to see if I would like it as much as I did the other one and the Gibson. Well they brought it out and let me try it, and I instantly liked it better then the other epiphones and the Gibson! I played it for about 20 minutes and decided it would be the one I would walk out with. The money I saved I put into some new strings, leads, and a case for my new bird. I just love the thing and play it every day!
