I've seen that some of the classic pros seem to have a rosewood fretboard instead of a ebony one, I may be wrong tho, but the color of the fretboard looks way more brighter than ebony in some of the birds, at least comparing it to mine.

Has anyone noticed that same thing?

The one I have on the way is definitely not ebony. Gibson's had to shift woods a lot the last decade.

I want in! I've actually had this 2001 T-Bird for some time now. I love the ebony board. I'm ready to start modding now by adding all nickel hardware and thunderbuckers. I'm in love with the look of the Bicentennials. Does anyone know what large clover style tuners (with the big elephant ears on back) will fit? I'm going for the look of the bicentennial, but I'm not sure if mine has a smaller headstock and that won't work? I know about the hipshots- but for me the bigger the better! Thanks!

Nice bass! My 2001 Bird is the one I will not make any modifications to (well, I did change the bridge to a Hipshot). It is a special one and I don't want to loose that sound. I love my 77 Bird tho so I understand the desire for the look and you can't go wrong with Thunderbuckers.

I'm in Jersey, so tempting. Maybe if I buy enough gear, will forget my ex gf

It is worth a shot!!

Hipshot does make a tuner just for 'Birds that is a clover, I've forgotten the part number but email or call and they'll set you up.
I'll get you on the club roster soon too, please be welcome here with us.

Not a bird, but also got a RD Artist

Mine appears to be, they claimed to be ebony on the specs that they advertised when I read it... in any case, I've seen some fretboards on the CPs that seem to be rosewood or something similar, but not really ebony. My 90s Gibson OTOH is pure ebony tho, and feels like it.

Not a wood junkie tho, just something I noticed.

Epi site currently says VP fretboard is Indian laurel.
AMS says pau ferro.
Thomann Music thinks it's blackwood teck.
Sweetwater and GC say rosewood.

Presumably Epi knows best. At least for what they're shipping today. Maybe they were shipping something different when the various sellers' pages were made. Maybe someone screwed up. Who knows? Not me. The fingerboard on my CP (at least in pics) looks lighter than whatever is on my VP below.

THUNDERBIRD vs CASE

I played around with my bass and guitar cases a bit tonight and realized a few things.
The VP will fit in the rectangular case I bought 8-10 years ago for the BO Epi bird. Granted the headstock is pushed slightly into the lining, but it fits. The CP should fit better.
The VP will fit in the Coffin Case Extreme if I remove the compartment divider/lid. [1] This is true of the BO Epi bird as well, and therefore must be true for the CP.
Neither is as good a fit as the irregular quadrilateral case they sell for the VP, but they work.

This has me rethinking selling the Coffin Case, or at least what I am willing to take for it.

[1] I found an image suggesting I knew this before, but apparently I had forgotten.

When I got mine they stated that it was ebony, now I read all that stuff and don't know what to think.

The previous picture is actually the fretboard of my bass that looks similar to my Gibsons fretboard, not the same feeling when touching it (Ahem) but is not the same bass anyway.

Hard to tell from the picture but it might be Ebony. IIRC Ebony rarely has open grain like that but rosewood does. So if it's not Ebony then is a darn beautiful slab of rosewood. Would be easier tell in a frontal shot with good light. Generally, if it's black or nearly black non porous and smooth it's usually Ebony. If it's Dark brown with some open grain it's usually rosewood. I've also seen rosewood boards that have been stained black, with exception of the open grain they look just like Ebony. Regardless, that fretboard looks beautiful!

Tomorrow when there's good light I'll try and post a pic of some different FB woods side by side. Off the top of my head I think I have basses with...
Brazilian Rosewood
Indian Rosewood
Ebony
Polysaturated Ebony
Macasser Ebony
Wenge
Pao Ferro
Walnut
Maple
Black Tec

The Can/US border is still closed. Although I am sure I could cross if I set my mind to it, there could be some unpleasant repercussions to be dealt with.

Good price, but converted to C$, I can get similar prices on used YBA300s at L&M and they are always kicking around. So common in fact, that most stores don't bother listing their used ones on the website. Last time I looked my local had at least 2 used YBA 300s.

Why are there so many used ones? Are they not good?

I am having a hard time too with my mini. They decided to upgrade the toneprint software and it no longer covers 32 bits computers, Im stucked and their customer service is beyond sht.

It takes some time for the toneprint to work, like 5/10 mins sometimes, but there shouldn't be any problem once is working.

Sometimes nothings better than a straight forward thing.
I have been told in the past that if software is working for you, don't update. Of course, that advice does you no good now.

And it is advice I disregard as well:
That is why we have a computer guy Scott, you are supposed to keep these things running. Don't bother me with details, just make it work!

Doggone post office. My Gibson Thunderbird was supposed to have been here Monday. Monday the tracking started showing that it was still in transit but going to be late. Then it started showing that it was arriving at the next destination, who knows which one that is, but was still going to be late. All the while still showing it was supposed to arrive Monday! The post office is really special. Today there is no date and it just says it is in transit, that it's going to be late and is in the process of going to the next destination. They have yet to list the last destination other that the original shipping point (left there May 5). I need to be here to sign for it, but now I have no idea when it's going to be here and have a couple meetings later in the week where I have to be gone. I completely understand that things can get delayed, but my concern is they don't seem to know where it is, was last or have any idea when it's going to arrive. Hopefully still not bouncing around Arizona waiting to get out of the state. Waiting on a phone call from the post office. No doubt they won't know anymore than the website which will add another level of concern. Fortunately the bass was insured. I was hoping to be cleaning, tweaking and playing the bass by now. In the mean time I wait.
