Indeed, it is kind of a heavy OD setup. With a set of new strings, it may sound 50% better.

Here I was trying to mimic my analog pedalboard OD setup with an old multi-fx unit, the result is impressive I think.

Ditto - on a scale of one to ten with ten being max drive I normally like a five or less. Just a personal preference thing.

I like the sound of the drive. But, if I were playing it, I would want a clean blend with 60-75% clean and 25-40% drive.

It had a nice crunch to it and unlike many other drives, retains a lot of bottom end, and not fizzy at the top.

While I had all of the parts out at the same time I did an Epi 760 to Chinabucker comparison.
The Epiphone 760’s come in at:
Bridge 9.39k
Neck 8.59k
Chinabuckers come in at:
Bridge 9.35k
Neck 8.33k
Pretty close over all..you can see that the wires come through the back cover in different places on both pickups.So they are not exact copies.
Solder at the covers is a little different as well..I still wonder if they are made in the same place.Still a mystery I guess.

I have to admit to having similar ideas.......that White Thunderbird II made from a VP gave me some serious gas......

These are a great platform to use for any kind of modification..The best part is that you don't have to replace the pickups. Cheers!

Mebbe so, but I think I'll still get Chinabuckers for Thunderjazz #2. I'm so happy with #1 (white), I'm doing a #2 in black. Gonna sell an Embassy to finance. Difference being pickguard and control plate delete (maybe, probably)

I’m casually in the market for a Tele. I have a Chinese Squier Strat that’s ok to mess around on, but the frets are terrible. I’d play guitar more if I had a decent Tele. Used USA Teles are always priced pretty high. MIM Teles don’t come up used very often and when they do, sellers seem to want to get close to what they paid for them. I haven’t come across any used Squier Teles; there are always three or four Squier Strats on our local CL.

I bought a Squier Affinity Tele close to a year ago. It's dual humbuckers but they do offer a typical Tele setup as well. It is surprisingly solid for a +/-$200 guitar. I had a bunch of Guitar Center points and cashed those in so the guitar cost me $86 and change out the door. The frets were dressed nicely and the finish is very well done. Might be something to take a look at.

I recently bought my ‘17 ebony for the purpose of refinishing to Pelham Blue. My problem is that it is in too good of shape. Dialed in and playing regularly, I feel bad modding this one. So the search for a cheaper, more “abused” one begins. If such a thing exists.

Thanks. The problem is finding nice used ones that are reasonably priced. They seem scarce near me. And shipping charges to get one here from Reverb don’t make sense. I guess I should really watch the GC used stuff. And, God forbid, start haunting guitar forums. I’m hesitant to buy new as I don’t play much guitar any more. I’m a much better bassist.

Well, were it mine, I’d refinish in Pelham Blue, put a Babicz on it and install a set of Thunderbuckers. YMMV.

It does come with the bridge and a pair of pickups, no electronics - got some ideas rattling around, I'll see what sticks once it arrives.
The paint on it isn't complete, so a color change isn't completely out of the question - but I'm a big fan of red

Red is cool. I’m a blue guy, through and through.

AMS summer catalog came in the mail. Unlike GC, they have a few pages with basses. Inly 1 Gibson SG and 3 Epis (white VP, EB3, Viola). Plus two Steinbergers.
