Thunderbird Club

Yeah, but then we have to decide who's an ambassador, security detail, intel weenie, undercover CIA, secretary, undersecretary, overundersecretary, and so on. And eventually someone tries to bomb us. Whereas as a M/C gang, everyone leaves us alone.
Can I claim the position of being under the oversecretary? :D

A Buddhist friend wears a rather large one regularly. To her it is a symbol of her faith.
Just for S&G I looked up swastika. I knew it had been used by some southwestern Native Americans, but I had no idea how many other cultures had used the symbol, whatever they called it.

A TSO to be able to semi-retire the 67 NR from the risks/rigors of gigging-which of course we aren't right now. I strive for a more mellow 60s-70s sound so relatively non aggressive. EBCF's, of course.

I really like my CP for the mellower sound. Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Grand Funk's "Closer to Home", etc. It can, of course, do more than that, but it's perfect at it. The VP can get close, but excel at things like classic Entwhistle. It slaps better, too.
Strings, of course, matter. The VP will get closer to the mellow sound with EBCFs. But my CP sounds (and feels) so perfect with those that I put the RS66s back on the VP for when I want an Angry Bird.

I bring sad tidings. We are down one Thunderbird player.

UFO Founder Pete Way Passes Away

Pete Way died, age 69 (ahem).

I can't like this, he was one that inspired me, so very glad I got to see him in his angry youth with UFO (with Schenker)

PRESS RELEASE

Iconic bass player Pete Way founder of UFO, Waysted and, latterly, The Pete Way Band has died.

He sustained life threatening injuries in an accident two months ago but fought hard until finally succumbing to those injuries at 11.35am BST today. His wife, Jenny, was at his side.

Pete Way was a much loved and highly regarded figure among rock fans, critics and fellow musicians alike. Best known for his work with UFO, Pete’s energetic live performances were at the heart of the band’s countless world tours. His melodic bass lines underpinned the catalogue of enduring rock classics upon which UFO’s reputation and legacy were founded. Pete’s post UFO work included collaborating with “Fast” Eddie Clarke from Motörhead - the two putting together Fastway with Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley and bassist for his long time friend, Ozzy Osbourne. He then put together his own band Waysted. Pete’s keen ear for song arrangements have also seen him serve as producer for popular hard rock acts such as Twisted Sister and the Cockney Rejects. Pete had recently finished a solo album, “Walking On The Edge” with producer Mike Clink (Guns n Roses “Appetite For Destruction” amongst many more.) He had a biography published “A Fast Ride Out Of Here” in 2017 and an album “Amphetamine” which is currently out on Cargo Records.

Pete is survived by two daughters, Zowie and Charlotte and his younger brother, Neill.

Rock on

;)It might be wise to find out who the oversecretary is first. I heard rumors it's some Sumo wrestler from Japan. :woot:

This exactly hits the nail on the head!
In fact I'll probably be making the same string change to my VP in the near future - going from Fender 7150 rounds to RS66s since I already have that low end covered perfectly with my other TBirds.

She has a point, it's definitely appropriation, not so sure about the cultural part since it's just an icon and not being used to define a specific cultural aspect.

That said, as an anthropologist she should be perfectly aware that nearly every society in the history of the earth has appropriated something from previous cultures, it's called building on the past and has led to the continued growth and improvement of society in general.

So, the big question for her should be - what's your point? Yes, it's appropriation, darn near everything is, live with it and grow. Or immediately stop using anything that has been appropriated from a prior civilization, including the house you live in because it was appropriated from cavemen who decided it would be better to sleep inside vs getting rained on every night.

I like my Thunderbirds so I'll continue to buy and play them. Likewise I like the strings and the frets and the tuning keys and bridges on them, which were all appropriated from prior civilizations that developed stringed instruments. HMMV
Short version - plagiarism is basic to all culture.
