Thunderbird Club

If it were me, I’d put Lollars in it and call it a day. So long as you can stand the tuners, that would make an awesome Thunderbird. Congrats! I love a nice Goth.

Not surprising. I sent a set of Chromes to Vee in OZ a few weeks ago. Our local USPO was in disarray around that time. So it took two visits to get a knowledgeable clerk to get it done. Finally got them on
the way to him by slow boat so it wouldn’t cost a fortune. Hoping they get there by Christmas.

Funny you should mention it Marshall. Just retrieved from the letter box.
9th September.
Edit: haven’t even opened the pack yet.

Crazy shipping story. I went to the post office to ship a Thunderbird gig bag to JIO. Found a box that I could fold it up and would fit into (maybe 18x18x18). The lady figured the cheapest shipping.......$67! Recall it's gig bag and weighs hardly anything. I told her I would pass as the contents didn't amount to that much. Several people including her chuckled and made comments. She suggested trying UPS. I get the need for revenue, but not to the point of it being completely counter productive.

Beware what you intend to ship or say shipping included on!
Size matters. That takes the space of hundreds of first class letters.

It's all about the box size on that one.

Instead of folding the gig bag, have you considered rolling it tight to see if you can knock down that box size? I'd start at the top of the bag and get it as tight as possible. You could also get the UPS app and try different size boxes and weights to see where the sweet spot is. Good luck.

I've got $25

Thanks. Rolling it would seem tough as it's not very flimsy. Worth a try. I'll give it another try after taking it to UPS or checking it on the web site just to see. May end up taking it to GC or Music-go-round and trade it for something.

I would bring home the largest USPS flat rate box (they're free until you ship them) and see what you can do. USPS is pretty liberal with the rules as long as it can be closed with the sticky flap.

You could also try folding or rolling it up as compact as it will get, then putting it inside a plastic bag and strapping it as tight and small as possible with packing tape.

The second plastic pickup cover was much easier to remove - now that I better understand how they're held on. :bookworm:

Supplemented the Xuron cutters with a flathead screwdriver. Used the cutters to give access for prying, and to break the cover loose from the epoxy on the bottom. Used the screwdriver to break the glue on top, then gently pried all around until the cover popped off

A little super glue and you could use it again.:rollno:

Next up: drilling holes for the rings :nailbiting:
Gotta get some not-black pickup screws on the way, too :meh:

FWIW, I cut the heads off the pickup ring mounting screws, glued them to the ring and then attached the ring using Shoe Goo silicone adhesive. Has held up for 3 years now and can be returned to "normal" if need be.

The Flamingo is full of holes I drilled for things like that. Drilling holes in a Gibson has a liberating quality.

For what its worth, I haven't decided if the fretless or bolt-on will be the next 'Bird to get a different color, but I know it's going to be Sherwood Green. There are a couple places that carry that color in rattle can nitro. At least that part is kinda-sorta settled. That picture of Geddy's green 'Birds sealed the deal.
