Thunderbird Club

I doubt it at that asking price. Maybe if under $2k it would be reasonable for what it is. Point being one could buy an Epi or cheaper Gibson bird and turn it into that bass for a whole lot less.
totally! heck, I talked them down to 3 for this less than 2 years ago...

Same shop had a black one with a headstock repair that was its mate.

1995 Gibson Thunderbird IV Limited Edition Neck Through Electric Bass Ebony w/ Case | Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar | Reverb

It is currently on the way to me and I may start gracing this thread with my presence more often.

I may or may not turn it into a 5 string with a whammy bridge.

Congratulations on that bass, it looks quite nice - don't think it would make a fiver though, neck is way too narrow for that.

That's bizarre - it has a crack (apparently repaired?) very similar to the other one. What's the chance of that?

The mate: I trust Mike & Mikes as they are a reputable shop. Also, the price is more in line with reality.

That's just the Gibson sweet spot isn't it? The "quick-release headstock" I've heard it called. Seen it deployed on the Les Paul just out of frame in my picture above, too.

Ha! I used to use a full interior sized 3" thick piece of foam when I used the OHSC for my '63 & '64 birds. What were they thinking making it so deep?
yeah, such a stupid case...to boot the lid is bigger than the compartment...why?...it may be repurposed from some other kind of instrument....mine’s in excellent shape..

I've seen them selling on eBay/Reverb for many hundreds of dollars. The (exterior) binding thread on mine is rotting away but otherwise it's also in good shape. I've considered selling it but it goes with the '64 II, which will only "go" after I "go". :bassist:

I still have the case that came with my 67 NR. Unfortunately, one end is busted out(long story)and I haven't the slightest idea who-not me-could fix it. And, of course, newer TBird cases are about 1.5" too short. I s'pose I could cut off part of the HS.:rollno:

Does it fit in the ‘13 case?

In the late '90s I bought one of the brown exterior/fuchsia interior w/funeral sheet/cover new for $50 from Guitar Center SF. (!) Even then I thought the salesperson didn't know what he was selling. I gladly paid him - it is a far better, more protective HSC for my beloved T-bird.

I wish there was a case like the one for my Les Paul 5er that would fit the 67NR. Oh, well, I have my Coffin Case(tm).
