Thunderbird Club

Damn, that's really sad. Mountain was so good. Just last week for each of the eight nights of Hanukkah Dave Grohl and Greg Kursten did a cover of a song featuring a Jewish artist (Leslie Weinstein). One night they did Mississippi Queen and did a pretty impressive job, given there was no guitar.

If they put out a new bird similar to the studio, I’d probably have to spend way too much money and get one. I really prefer flat topped birds with more of a regular style bridge. The only thing that I don’t care for with the studio is that it has a neck tilt like every Gibson bird and that makes the strings really far from the body. My custom bolt-on has a hip shot bridge sunk into the body to get the strings super close.

He was a cool guy to watch live...... and the contrast with him being such a big guy and Felix being such a small guy was a cool show. Saw them at the 1970 Atlanta Pop Fest. They smoked. Theme for an Imaginary Western .. dynamite.

One of my favorite Mountain songs.

Needs more cow bells!

You're right, he was a big guy. Not quite as tall but always reminded me of Andre the Giant.

The folks at Amazon sent me some new Thunderbird accessories! :hyper:

They were even kind enough to trade, even, for some fairly worthless $$ I had lying about! :jawdrop:

For all the joyful and raucous pyrotechnics of their harder rock and roll tunes, this and Nantucket Sleighride quickly became (and remain) my faves.

Watching old Mountain clips led me to, of course, some TYA. Check this out. Leo goes crazy beginning around 2:45. So good.

A friend who'd been playing bass longer that I tried to convince me that as bass players, we should only be concerned with keeping the beat or groove, and never do anything like this. Sure, that's a big part of ot, but at least with some music, just nope.

He was a great grove player. But like Sguire, so much more. He and Lee started playing together as kids. They were so great together when went to “that place.”
