Thunderbird Club

The PF Club cracks me up a bit after the flak I caught for switching to CFs because the RS66s were killing my fingers. (Altho in fairness, with increased playing time, my fingers are now happy with either).
Don't diss the Princess Fingers!

I'm now leaning toward my issue being allergy to cobalt.

Since I'm off from work for three days, including xmas (and can't get anything like errands done on the 25th for some reason), I've set myself a goal! :jawdrop:

Fun song! I'm sure you'll pick it up pretty quick. This is one of my favs to play on my Spector and Alembic basses that excel in cutting through the mix. Haven't tried it on my Thunderbirds, but should be awesome with the thicker sound of the Greco or the bite of the BaCH, might even fit the VP well. Probably not a good match for my recapped Goth which is much darker and smoother.

Not sure which pups you have on that bass or if it's the one you were going to recap but if you can get a solid low mid with some dirt dialed in and a bit of top end bite it should sound great.

Easy enough to check. Just cut off about an inch of CF E string and tape it to your arm or chest (somewhere it can get a bit of perspiration). Check it every hour or two. If no rash or red mark after a day you're probably not allergic. Of course, if you are allergic, this is a great way to become sensitized to the metal making it very problematic to ever come in contact with it again.
Oh, and don't forget - take two aspirin and call me in the morning (I'm staying at the Holiday Inn).

I don’t get it either. No set of strings bothers my fingers. Power Steels, assorted nickels, Chromes and I love my soft as a baby’s behind CFs. Play regularly, setup with medium low action and turn the amp up so it’s doing the work.

Working on getting the notes down/memorized, and left/right hand co-ordination sorted (probably doesn't help that I play with a pick... :cautious: ). Then work on picking up speed.

This is the one with the T-bird Plus? pickups. Haven't re-capped it yet, but it's currently got a 250k tone pot instead of 500k.
A lot of bottom-end, brighter? than my bolt-on w/flats, but not as much as the VP. :bookworm:

This new Peavey has all manner of knobs & buttons, I'm sure I can get the sound once I've got the playing part down ;)

I use a lot of charts to learn too. I have this thing about trying to play all the way through once each on three or four of my different basses. Then I pick one bass and play along with the song a few times a day ‘til it sticks.

I thought about using my sr305, I have the music for the 5-string too, but I really like playing the Thunderbirds better, and the new tuners one the CP needed to be "broken in" (not literally), so I de-tuned it and got started; first time I've really gotten to sit with it & work on getting the details/adjustments of all the new hardware sorted. :smug:

Don't ask me for any authentication here...........But, this was in my FB Feed.

I swear to god if Gibson puts these out before they put out a bloody proper reissue of a 60s Thunderbird I am going to loose my **ck**g s**t.

Speaking of signatures though, any heard any more word about the rumored Rex Brown Epi NR?

Yeah. A modernized Tbird with a decent bridge is cool and all. I like it. Especially the red binding look. And it would likely expand the group of Tbird players. I get that. But the faithful are really clamoring for a vintage reissue.

Imo, if they do a vintage re-issue under the Gibson brand, they should do something different....and re-issue the Thunderbird II. Both "modern" and "vintage" versions.

There's already plenty of options for dual pickup T-birds.... :speechless:

Glad to be of service!:D I suppose there is some humor in someone saying they find Cobalts worse on the fingers than Rotos! But it's true for me. It's "my truth." (Always wanted to say something that illogical to see what it felt like!)

That's the odd thing, they do feel smooth, it's just after some playing (maybe 15-20 minutes), I notice a general soreness in my fingers. Weird, I know.

I'd just keep it together, NAMM, it will likely be a virtual event and we should know a lot more in about a month.
